The Devil's Bridge, Antigua

While my HD is in its defragmenting mode, seems that it gets confused at any attempt on working something more serious...but this seems to be working fine...so why not use it while we are here...and ok, frankly, i just feel this overall restlessness and anxiety and at times like these, rambling here just eases things for me...so bear with it :)

And first a card from Antigua that I received like two years ago and to be honest, I dont even recall how I ended up with this swap...yeah, I'm terrible in keeping up with my cards...frankly, my unposted cards go back to 2009 *hides in shame*

The card shows The Devil's Bridge, which is a natural limestone arch that over the centuries has been carve by the heavy surf on the Atlantic side of the island.
The crashing surf spouts through blowholes with spectacular eruptions and noise.

(from the back of the card)

important notice:
Visitors to Devil’s Bridge do so at their own risk. The limestone formation is often slippery because of the waves and it is advised people do not walk across the bridge. Swimming at Devil’s Bridge is not allowed.

you have been warned!

a nice small stamp from a set of 15 Fauna stamps issued in 2007, with this one showing a Mesquite...and a "Missent to Malaysia" stamp too....

thanks a bunch to Lindsay for sending this to me!!

Antigua

My tongue fell out the other day when I found this gem of a card in my mailbox...not only it is a map card (and seems it's been a while since ive posted a map card here), but look the country it is coming from!!

a fantastic surprise (one of a dozen Ive received in the past week or so) from my dear Sissel....who has been visiting some awesome places lately and always drops me a card or a few in the mail...and since my postman sometimes loves to bring me all at once, I end up having a small Christmas in the mid-October :)

Here is what the back of the card says: The larger island of the nation of Antigua and Barbuda, Antigua boasts 365 beautiful beaches, one for each day of the year (** I got a deja vu here and I wonder who is the copy cat....is it Antigua who had copied from us about the 365 churches of Ohrid, one for each day of the year, or vice-versa?)
It lies roughly 17 degrees north of the equator in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. It is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide. The capital is St. John's.

At the bottom left you can see the Old Road, of which I had already written once...so now you have a better idea where it is exactly :)

and the most important part of this is, that it comes written and stamped, which makes it my first written and stamped card from Antigua! Wohoo...one more down! Though with all the new countries being born, I always seem to be holding around the status quo...

the middle stamp is from a set of 13 flora definitives, with this one depicting a coconut (mhm mhmm mhhm), while the birds' stamps are from another set of 15 definitives, issued in 1995

thank you sooo soo sooooooooooo much dear Sissel!! Thank you!!!!!!

Old Road, Antigua and Barbuda

Here is another country to tick off the list...and its a fairly hard to get one, so im very proud to own it in my collection....and its all thanks to Glenn.... one of the greatest contributors to my postcard collection!

The back of the card says: A flamboyant tree overhangs the rural landscape at Old Road.
Btw, you should know that "Antigua" is pronounced "Antee'ga"...and not literally as its written (and as i personally thought as well). As for Barbuda...thats pretty ok :)
Antigua and Barbuda are located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, roughly 17 degrees north of the equator.
These are separate islands, but as a territory, they are one.
Another thing....Old Road doesnt refer to the road you see on the card (as i personally thought...)
Old Road is actually the name of a village....it is located in the Parish of Saint Mary and is an integral and significant part of the tourism industry. Old Road is located right by the Atlantic Ocean which falls on the south of the town. It is said that the nature here is at its very best.

Well, i really like the red blossoms on the branches...looks so nice against the green colour....and it seems to be a really tranquil place....just perfect enough for me...and too far away :)
