Horseshoe Bend, USA

Next is an official card I received just recently from Cal...

US-3874993

It shows the Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River in Arizona. It is a horseshoe shaped meander and its rock walls contain variety of minerals, among which are hematite, platinum and garnet.
This place is considered like one of the most photographed ones on the Colorado River....kinda justified...the view on this one is stunning...I can't event imagine how it would be to be actually standing at this spot from where the picture was taken :)

a number of nice stamps on the back....the well-known clock to you all...and right above it a bird stamp from a set of 4 Coast birds issued in 2015, with this one showing the Frigatebird. Then we have a somewhat older stamp, from 1962, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Arizona Statehood. The last one is from the two Vintage Flowers' stamps issued in 2015.

Santa Catalina Mountains, USA

Dear Carol often knows to surprise my mailbox...

And this is such an amazing card! I honestly never believed I could see a combination of snow and cacti at ONE picture. And it's such a beautiful scene! I just love this! And it rather reminds me of what the weather outside seems to forecast...it's been soooo brr brrr brr cold these days...it wouldnt surprise me if one day soon I wake up to a snowy view outside.

These are the Santa Catalina Mountains, located north of Tuscon and they are the most prominent mountains in the area. The highest point in the Catalinas is Mount Lemmon at an elevation of 9,157 feet. Wow!

And Carol always seems to put a lot of effort in the stamps...she used 4 great ones here...the Olympic one in the middle is a commemorative one from this year regarding the Olympic Games in Vancouver...the one on the very right is from 2009 celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Alaska statehood...and it was rather challenging to track down the other two stamps, but voila! The one on the left was issued in 1972 (!) representing the Wolf Trap theatre, while the one at the bottom was issued in 1970, and it represents the very famous Mayflower and the Landing of the Pilgrims in the Promised Land.

Thank you so much Carol!

Antelope Canyon, USA

A very interesting formation....

Antelope Canyon is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It is a magical place where light and sandstone come together creating some of the world's most memorable photography. Antelope is a slot canyon and is approximately 5 miles long.

Well, not recommended for people suffering from claustrophobia I guess....

Arizona, USA

A really great Arizona card dear Carol sent me.

What comes to attention here is the Spider Rock, which rising at 800 feet, is a dramatic remnant of the plateau surrounding it. In Navajo myth, Spider Woman carried naughty children to the top of Spider Rock.

Arizona itself is full of canyons, from grand to small. Canyon de Chelly is in extreme northeast Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Tourists can travel up the canyon on horseback or in 4-wheel drive vehicles, with a Navajo Guide. Native people still live in the canyon tending sheep and cultivating dry land crops.
The Navajo Reservation is the largest Indian reservation in the US, 65000  km2!

thanks a lot to Carol for the info.

and here come some stunning stamps where the two on the left were actually issued back in 1964 and its just unbelievable to see that they are still in use. The first one shows Shakespeare! While the other one shows Sam Huston..
As for the two lovely vibrant ones...they come from a m/s of 10 stamps called Kelp Forest. The whole sheet itself is just amazing...you can take a look at it here.

Arizona, USA

Cool card...both due to what it represents and to how it appears in MY eyes...

The Wave is located on the Colorado Plateau, about a half mile south of the Arizona and Utah borders. The arc is a gallery of gruesomely twisted sandstone, resembling deformed pillars, cones, mushrooms and other odd creations.

thats what the back of the card says...to me, this is like some cake all covered in caramel sauce....mmmmmm....yeah, as usual, certain card remind me of food...and ive just consumed a bunch of sweets, even though i promise to myself that since YESTERDAY ill go on a diet...but my depressed state of mind called for sugar...and had an extra dose of it...and of course, nothing changed towards feeling better...arent you actually fed up with my bla bla bla "my life sucks" rambling?

Arizona, USA

I got this card as a total surprise from my dear Carol...and its a great card indeed!

The card is called "Rock Art"....An exquisitely designed petroglyph panel in the backcountry of Petrified Forest National Park eloquently speaks to the artistry of its carver. The five-toed mammal with long tail has the attributes of a mountain lion but its curved horns resemble those of a desert bighorn sheep. And the lizard figures appear to merge into human forms. Hybridized creatures occasionally appear in rock art of the Ancestral Pueblo People.
Carol thought i might decipher what the artist(s) had said since i am practiced (uhm) in the field of translation..
Well, after consulting my text-books and dictionaries, whats carved in there, says: Get better soon dear Carol, and let those around you be well soon as well!

;)

And i have to thank Carol for always using lots and also, different stamps...and doesnt use the standard 94c stamp everyone is complaining about since they see it more than often :)
And i must say a big thank you to the US postal service for actually NOT destroying one bit of this card and for leaving it intact...i dont know about you, but most of my US cards arrive with paper torn from the back, or missing....

Mesa, USA

The first two things that come to my mind when you mention Arizona are heat and cactuses.

This card shows Mesa in Arizona.

The ever-growing city of Mesa is now one of the "hottest" spots in the country, housing one of the top 100 school districts in the nation, the country's largest theatre complex and U.S. Postal store, and seven of the nation's top 500 manufacturers.

To be honest, this is the first time i hear about Mesa...but its never too late for one to learn something new, is it?

Route 66, USA

I told you time ago, that once i know that i will be attending that DM concert i will commemorate it with a Route 66 card...
Well, here is a Route 66 card, so you know what that means :)  Yup...Ana is going to see DM in Belgrade 20th of May 2009!
Now i know you wonder why the lack of warmth and excitement while writing this....well, until i get to hold my ticket in the hand...and until i get to get inside the venue...i cant be still....thats just me...i always feel something can go wrong with things like this, so until i see it and feel it with all my senses, i cant be sure :-(
My dear cousing had reserved/bought the tickets...just that the actual ones will be delivered sometime in April...right now she just has the proofs that she has paid for it and all, but the physical tickets wont be available until then...i just hope the management behind this whole thing wont screw something up....

here is Enjoy the Silence...this got me into DM...this song breaks my emotions to million pieces each time i hear it...this song totally strips me down emotionally when i hear it live...this is an eternal, undying anthem....these are Depeche Mode...the one and only Depeche Mode

i have never cried to a song as i did to this one when i watched DM live in Sofia, 21.06.2006...NEVER!!

Arizona, USA

I really really love the close up of these cactuses...plus the combination of colours is just lovely..

Prickly pear cacti are found in all of the deserts of the American Southwest. The fruits of most prickly pears are edible as are the branches or pads.

(thats what the back of the card says)
