Jamaica

So, after some weeks of silence, here I am back again...and of course that silence as always has been justified :)

I'll start today's update with this card from Jamaica that Glenn sent me like six years ago...yep, that long...but maybe it will again bring Glenn some nice memories after seeing this one :)

It shows a Fishing Pot...not sure if it is in Runway Bay exactly from where Glenn sent this card..but either way it is a cool one...I love such everyday-life scenes  and fishing certainly is a daily scene on the island.

the stamp is from a set of 8 definitives issued in 2006, showing Devon House St. Andrew.

Thanks a bunch Glenn (again)! And hope you are doing fine...and away from the fires at Fort McMurray....such a tragic and scary incident =/

Jamaica

What a nice weekend it has been....warm and sunny..no..havent done anything special, but im happy that ive managed to do some efficient cleaning so now if you want to enter my room, you can actually do so without worrying you'll trip over something....plus i cleared my desk of the TONZ of necessary and unnecessary stuff it was cluttered with....the latter prevailed to a large extent i must admit....and well, lets close this week with a few more cards.

The first one comes from Glenn and his trip to Jamaica earlier this year...well, back in February according to the postmark below :)
This is such a sweet and cute card, saying to portray a scene from rural Jamaica, and this card is called Pickney Bath Time.
It's always nice to see the rural scenes of the countries, and not only the regular city views and sceneries one is used to...when it comes to Jamaica, what first comes to my mind are beautiful long beaches and crystal clear waters...reggae music and Bob Marley...faster than light sprinters like Usain Bolt...and all that's perfectly interesting as well...but it is something that is more common, while these rural Jamaican scenes are not something seen every day...so thats why I appreciate cards like this too...plus this kid is just soooo adorable!
In general, a scene like this is not unfamiliar to me, since in the rural and even not so rural areas, you can come across a bath of this kind...and the kids enjoy the splish-splash :)

probably the most common Jamaican stamp, at least when it comes to international mail...coming from a set of 8 definitives issued in 2006. its part III of this subject regarding Classical architecture, where here you can see Devon House St. Andrew.

thanks a lot again Glenn for this lovely card!

Jamaica

One of the popular dishes ad delicacies coming from Jamaica....

Curry Goat

Cut up into small cube, 2lbs goat or mutton. Place in a large bowl. Add 1 crushed clove of garlic, 2 tomatoes, 2 onions, 1 stalk of escallion, 1 hot pepper chopped, then 3 tablespoons curry, salt and pepper to taste. Mix all together. Allow to rest for 1/2 hour. Separate meat from seasoning. Fry meat in 2 tablespoons butter, 2 fluid ozs. oil until brown. Add seasoning and 2-3 cups of water. Cover and simmer until tender. Serve with rice.

It may be really interesting to learn about such traditional dishes, but this is so much something i would NEVER try...im not a vegetarian, but apart from chicken and fish, i can hardly digest other sorts of unprocessed meat....and fish actually aint meat...it's fish....

well, ive already posted about it, so this was more just a copy-paste job :)

Jamaica

Sometimes i dont post for days....sometimes i end up posting several days in a row....even though im still sort of tight with time...but i just really need to catch up with my received cards (though being realistic, i could be posting every single day until the end of the year and i still wont be done)...and being realistic for the second time, writing here feels therapeutic, so in a way i NEED to do it....its one of the things which apart from great mail in the mailbox, help me get through the day...lame, no? But at least there ARE things i can do when im feeling in one of those moods.....

And a card that made my day when i received it....you know im crazy about flag cards, and this one here is just perfect. I think that the GTKY ladies really want to spoil me sometimes :))) And this one travelled for like two months to get to me...but it did arrive eventually! And a huuuuuge thank you and a biiiiig hug to Wendy for sending me this one...i absolutely LOVE IT!.

The Jamaican flag was first flown on August 6 1962, Jamaica's Independence day.....wow wow wow....hold it...that is TODAY!!! Ok...i SWEAR when i was choosing the cards for this update i had no idea about this...and now when i rewind things, i know while ago Wendy mentioned that she wont have mail today since its Independence Day, but you know, its one of the things you read but dont really grasp the meaning of it...and i had already chosen my cards for today since yesterday (yeah, honestly i have so many great cards that i choose them right after i make an update and wait till the next day to post them...)
Sooo....Happy Independence day to Jamaica, and im happy that so unconsciously i chose this card for today..i mean, i could have posted it yesterday or tomorrow...but there you go...i have my 6th sense sometimes :)
So anyway....let me continue..The colours of the Jamaican flag are Gold, Black and Green (I actually thought it was yellow all this time).
The Black represents the many hardships endured and yet to come.
Green is for Jamaica's agricultural resources and also represents hope.
Gold represents the natural wealth of the island's nation and natural beauty bestowed on Jamaica by the golden sunlight.

Jamaica

Brrrr brrrr brrrrrr.....its soooo terribly cold here that my blood freezes when i go outside...no wonder im having a cold and feel so not well....i wonder if the fact im constantly hungry has something to do with it as well...

Well...maybe here its terribly cold outside, but thats why here we have a nice tropical Jamaican postcard to at least for a moment, warm my bones....and make me think that my sneezing may be coming as a hay-fever not coz of illness...
And shall i tell you that this is actually my first Jamaican postcard and that we are going up on the list of countries received...which means a step closer to the number of 100 and a step closer to the contest??!! Well, its not a million dollar question contest...i stole the idea from Glenn in Canada...and i DO like such contests and all...just hopefully it will work out well...
the first thing that comes to my mind when you say 'Jamaica' is Bob Marley....but dont worry...i wont be posting any "No Woman No Cry" things...Bob's ok....but im not really in the mood for a Marley kind of music right now..
the second thing that comes to my mind, are the Jamaican athletes...the runners in particular...i watched parts of the Beijing Olympics last year and the Jamaicans have amazed me....they are like the fastets nation on Earth!  Not only i CANT run that fast, but i run out of breath like after two minutes of running :|
On the other hand, i can go cycling for hours and feel just perfect about it....esp if i have music with me, then i really can lose track of time...its one of the loveliest things in the world...which reminds me that i need to get my bike in an operating condition...and either fix my discman or get myself a new mp3 player...or an iPod....iPods look really sleek and sexy...need to think about it...

GTKY Christmas Cards

Hello Hello Hello! For the first time this year :)
Hope you have had a nice New Year's eve and that this year had a great start....mine was nice, just that it seems that i cant get enough sleep in general :)
Do you people make New Year Resolutions? I try not to, but ive made some this year, and i hope ill have the strength to stick up to them...and if you made resolutions as well, im wishing you all the necessary strength in the world so you keep up with them...*fingers crossed* :)

Well, enough chit-chat, lets show some stuff here...as its most convenient, i think, this is the time to show Christmas related stuff, no? So thats why todays posts will be all Christmas related

The first one is dedicated to the Christmas cards received through the GTKY thread....we arranged there with the ladies a nice Christmas Flamingo :) We were supposed to send each other Christmas cards, but with some rules applied...the cards HAD to be handmade and they had to have a quote/poem inside...so even though im totally anti-artistic, i decided to join, coz i knew if i didnt i would regret it...and im more than pleased to have done so....maybe my art skills suck, but what mattered eventually is the friendship...as we say, the cards were made with love, friendship, glue and paper :) So its the thought that counts....and here is what my thoughtful friends sent to me (im still waiting for the last one to arrive, and once it does, ill edit the post and post it here...)
No comments this time....i think the cards feel too personal and comments may just ruin the moment this time...so just feel the thoughtfulness and the friendship that comes along with them :)

The cards are posted in order they had been received...

from Essi in Finland

from Katy in Estonia

from Sally in New Zealand

from Valerie in France

from Charlotte in UK

from Carol in USA

from Ula in Poland

from Relie in Singapore
these are actually two Christmas cards, so i posted both of them

Enormous thanks my friends! Its been a pleasure to take part in this and share the Christmas spirit with you :)

*Hugs to you all*
