Djerba, Tunisia

a nice surprise card I received from Anne from her trip to Tunisia

it says, 'a corner of paradise'...and markets like this certainly are...mhhm all those colours and different smells and textures...so beautiful! Last time i had seen a market like this was when I went to Turkey last summer...and it was actually very very near our hotel...and so full of fruits and spices and nuts and all...a joy for all senses!
Hmm, I really should visit Tunisia...at least it is still one of those countries for which I do not need a visa to go to

the stamp is from a set of 4 issued in 2013, representing famous Tunisians (here you can see Taher Cheriaa, who was a Tunisian film critic and the founder of the Carthage Film Festival in 1966).

Thank you again Anne for the lovely surprise!!

Sousse, Tunisia

Last card for today is from dear Judit, who makes sure that once a year I get a card from Tunisia :) And shame on me, I have not posted the ones she sent me in the past few years =/

Sousse is a city in the central-east of the country, on the Gulf of Hammamet, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea. Its name may be of Berber origin and similar names are found in Libya and in the south of Morocco.
It is also an important tourist resort, where around 1,200,000 visitors come every year to enjoy it here.

And here I have a map card so I surely won't get lost when I go there. I've never been to Tunisia, though I'd love to. I have to see what's so special about it that Judit loves so much! And I admire it how she keeps going back here. Though, when it comes to me, no matter how much I love a particular place, I prefer to visit new ones whenever I get the chance to travel, instead going back somewhere where I've already been...I just want to see a bit of everything and everywhere :)

the stamp is from a set of two issued in 2013, representing the Architecture of the city of Tozeur, and this one shows the Medina.

Judit, hvala ti jоš jednom na super razglednici ♥

Well, the tennis match is still on and Im done here...so Ill go back to it now, but first I need to find Kimi the cat...

Have a great weekend everyone and see you next time!

Tunisia

Well, HELLO and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all of you!! Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year...whatever you celebrate. I know it is a bit late and that ive been absent for a long while, but you know how life gets around holidays....and I have to admit that I have been in a low mood in general, and now matter how much I forced myself to, in the end I just couldnt get myself to make at least another update before the end of 2011, even though I had already had the cards prepared....but well, lets see how will 2012 go and if Im gonna be more disciplined or things will go even slower...

well I hope you've enjoyed the holidays (except for the ones celebrating Orthodox Christmas - me included - which is yet about to come). I hope this 2012 will bring you the joys of the world you've been desiring whatever that it may be...and of course, many great new postcards from places far and away...postcard-wise, my year started not that bad, however, for this update I will stick to some older cards which had already been foreseen to be posted.

And we will start with Tunisia...one of those countries I have several postcards from thanks to Judit...however, I always realize too late that it's been TOO long between two Tunisia posts.
So here are two great map cards I have.

the one above represents Tunisia in a more cartoon-esque, while the one below in a more picturesque manner...the latter I guess is more helpful in regarding what to see. However, I do in a way prefer the above type of map cards...they are just too cute :))

Never been to Tunisia as you had probably read in some of my previous Tunisian posts...never really been attracted to these Northern African countries...however, right now I sort of regret it coz with all the events around there, I wonder if I will have the chance to pay a visit....you know me...i may not have a huge desire to visit a certain place...but if I get a chance to go there, i would certainly take it, and most probably enjoy it...you just need to know how to make the most out of it and see as much as possible, even if that meant waking up at 7 am and coming back to the hotel after midnight...which was some sort of practice during my holiday in Spain this summer...but it was more than worth it :)

btw, in case you end up receiving a blank postcard in the following days/weeks...it might be from me....ive been rather absent-minded lately and I ended up both sending the same thing twice to someone as well as sending out a totally blank postcard, except for the address and the stamp....embarrassing....

Nabeul, Tunisia

Im a real idiot sometimes...ive received a number of cards from Tunisia, but decided to keep them in the dark..well, not on purpose, but thing is, time flew away without me realizing that I should post some...you know, I usually keep the rare/harder to get countries as special, and dont post them as often..but eventually, I got a few Tunisian cards, so i could freely post at least one...yet I didnt...until now...

Judit sent me this great map card from her holidays this summer...from the city of Nabeul, coastal town in northeastern Tunisia, on the south coast near to the Cap Bon peninsula. Among the other things you can see on the map, you can notice, at the bottom left corner, something called "Neapolis". Well, apparently, Nabeul is a former Roman colony, whose name is an Arabised form of the Greek Neapolis which stands for 'new city'.
I like the Kamel Market too, and would love to visit the Theatre and La Medina...though due to the common high temperatures, Tunisia has never been one of my favourite destinations, though if I ever get the chance to go, ill surely take it.

Another lovely clear cancellation...on a stamp issued in 2009 in a set of 4, showing fruits of Tunisia...this is a peach...well, it is a fruit of many other countries of the world as well, but maybe there is something special regarding Tunisian peaches.

Djerba, Tunisia

Tunisia....one of the top destinations for Macedonians during summer, yet a place I still havent visited...If im like, served the chance on a plate to go there, I surely will...but personally, not attracted to it...you know that such hot desert places do not feel the most appealing to me

I got this card from Tanja who spent her holidays there last summer...Djerba is actually the largest island off North Africa off the coast of Tunisia. It is one of the few remaining places where the Berber language is still spoken, while another thing that attracts the tourists here is& the 1977 location of the Mos Eisley exterior scenes in the first Star Wars movie, filmed in the town of Ajim.
Here comes a (shameful) admission....havent really watched Star Wars...maybe just a few bits and pieces....well, I know it's an epic movie and like a must-watch but im just not really attracted to such movies....

The stamp is from 2005 from a set of 4 stamps showing Medicinal Plants. This one here is Mint.

Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

A card my friend Marija brought me from her summer holiday in Tunisia...hmmm, i have two friends called Marija, who have participated in sending/bringing me cards...this is Marija Dz.....the other one is Marija Sh.....in general, we distinct them by their last names...but here, it feels way too official to actually call my friends by their last name, so ill leave it as it is

I cant recall what year exactly she went there...but for sure it wasnt in the past 3 or 4 years, coz we actually didnt really keep in touch during then...she is a friend i met at the university, during the preparing sessions for the entrance exams...eventually we had a gap of contacting each other and all, but since several months ago, we got back in touch and we've been hanging out regularly ever since...and i have to say i like it....due to a chain of events and personal issues, i had lost contact with many people, never really bothered about it, but now i realize ive really missed some people, and im really glad that they are back into my life...and i truly promise, i will try my best not to let that friendship go astray again...of course, those things need to be mutual, but i think that if what we have now, wasnt mutual, we wouldnt have had it at all....yeah, im getting sentimental, but trust me...this aint even close to how sentimental i can actually get :)

btw, on the card among other things, Marija says that they are at an ass-kicking hotel, and that they are drinking "unbubbles mineral water"....wanna take a guess what it actually stands for? :)) and no, it aint a mistake by Marija, but by the Tunisians actually :)
