Another surprise card, this time from dear Agi and her last year's trip to the US....when I do the math, feels like she's seen half the world so far...I wonder when or IF i will ever achieve that (well whichever way you turn it, she will always be ahead of me anyways :)
The card shows a scene from the Central Park in NY, a place which I don't know, is inevitably mentioned in every single movie set in NY....or at least that's my impression of it :)
It is said to be the most visited park in the entire USA, with 40 million visitors in 2013. With 341 ha in size, it definitely seems like there is plenty to do and see here.
the stamp is the 2014 Christmas one, showing the Evergreen Wreath.
Hvala ti puno Aginice! :*

1 World Trade Center, USA
If I hadnt received this official recently, I would have remained clueless that New York has a new World Trade Center..with what they call it now, 1 World Trade Center..
lovely dog sticker, and nice Christmas stamp from the USPS...love the colours of the new Global stamp
US-2590419
The 104-story supertall skyscraper is now the tallest building in the US, and is part of an effort to memorialize and rebuild following the destruction of the original World Trade Center complex that we all know, happened during the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Hard to believe it it's been so long ago...and so much has been talked about it...conspiracy theories and all...but im not gonna go into that about it now
If im not mistaken, the opening of the building has been scheduled for late January/early February, so I guess it is still not functional, or Im wrong?
Curious, if people that are gonna be working here, would sub-consciously fear any terrorist attacks...

New York, USA
Another card which arrived thanks to my favourites' thread :)
I had this NY scene in my favourites for a long long while, and im really happy that I have it in my collection now! Photoshopped or not, the image is freaking awesome! The full moon reminds me of those werewolf horror movies...
there is a lovely excerpt on the back of the card, from "The Lake" by Ray Bradbury. Goes like this:
"The next day, I went away on the train.
A train has a poor memory; it soon puts all behind it. It forgets the cornlands of Illinois, therivers of childhood, the bridges, the lakes, the valleys, the cottages, the hurts and the joys.
It spreads them out behind and they drop back of a horizon."
the 'train' moment is just so convenient....so thanks so much to Rozanne for selecting just this one for me
and Rozanne also used a bunch of stamps...I guess this increase in the postal rates gives the opportunity for loads of combinations unless you have the stamps with the exact amounts yet.
So here we have, from left to right, the Tiffany Lamp issued in 2008, then the Navajo Jewelry issued in 2006, next to its is the American Toleware from 2007. The fourth stamp is rather new to me and was issued just this year in a set of 5 Aloha Shirts' stamps (really cool!), while the last one is the most adorable to me, issued again this year, in a set of 4 stamps featuring 'Dogs at work'

New York, USA
The last choice of a card for today is also a rather special one, coming from New York.
The card shows the United Nations Headquarters, which is a distinctive complex in NYC, located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Manhattan. It has served as the official headquarters of the United Nations since its completion in 1952.
There are 3 other additional, subsidiary, regional headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland), Vienna (Austria), and Nairobi (Kenya). And Im happy to say that I also own one UN card from Vienna thanks to Earney!
These adjunct offices help represent UN interests, facilitate diplomatic activities, and enjoy certain extraterritorial privileges, but only the main headquarters in New York contains the seats of the principal organs of the UN, including the General Assembly and Security Council. All 15 of the United Nation's specialized agencies are located outside New York at these other headquarters or in other cities.
Though it is in New York City, and part of the United States, the land used by the United Nations Headquarters is considered international territory, while also being subject to most local, state, and federal laws. For award purposes Amateur radio operators consider it a separate "entity", and for communications the UN has its own internationally recognized ITU prefix, 4U.
And of course, it has its own stamps, as you can see below.
The stamp on the right is from a series of 4 definitives issued in 1976. The one in the middle is from a series of two W.I.P.O stamps issued in 1977, while the third one is an airmail definitive from a set of 4 issued in 1972.
And I love the 'United for Peace' cancellation.
Just a great card and great stamps, no? Thanks a lot to Oleg for it.
And thank you for dropping by...see you soon...I hope :)

New York, USA
This card is actually dark purple...but my scanner insisted on a lighter version....
You know, ive just realized how many things there are out there related to New York...and you know how indecisive i tend to get...and its been somewhat hard to actually decide what to write about New York this time...so i decided to cut my troubles short, to spare you from reading facts and figures and just enjoy.....if you are into this kind of music, anyway :)
oh, what?? you expected that "New York, New York" song instead? hey, im not THAT predictable :)
And i really love this one much more....plus it gives me the analogy of the British English vs American English, something i often have trouble with at work, esp. with children who are used to watching American movies, and get the American accent and some American vocabulary...not that i mind, but its just hard to have to switch them to the British one
and btw, im getting really bothered with YouTube coz for some reason it had started removing many many videos....so you can barely find official videos...only live performances or cover songs or some guy who sits on the bed in his room with the guitar in his hands pretending to be a Jim Morrison resurrection...

New York, USA
A map card from the state of New York
As with all the states, New York as well has its motto, its flower/tree etc.
Now, here is how it stands:
- Capital: Albany
- Flower: Rose
- Tree: Sugar Maple
- Motto: Excelsior, Ever Upward (duh?!) Someone will have to explain this to me a bit :/
Btw, even though Albany is the capital, the largest city is New York City, or the Big Apple, if you wish to call it so. It is as well the largest US city in general.
