St. Florin Cathedral, Liechtenstein

well, I know I have another passion to focus on, but lets not neglect this blog either :)  And I just ended with another part of my work, which has stretched out for daaaaaaays, and I really got fed up, but I finally did it! So now I can steal a few minutes off at last!

this card came as a huge surprise from Daniela, who noticed how i had complained about Liechtenstein, wondering if their cards show ANYTHING else but their Vaduz castle! Well, from what she had told me, there is no variety of choice, but there still IS something different and she sent it to me!! And this is the.....ta-ra-ra-raaaaa....the St. Florin cathedral in Vaduz!!!! Yeah, it has to revolve around Vaduz anyhow :) But im really really happy to have this, esp since it came due to such great thoughtfulness!

The St. Florin's Cathedral is situated on the site of a medieval chapel. It was built in Neo Gothic style in the late 19th century by the Viennese architect Friedrich von Schmidt who also designed the City Hall of Vienna.

Vaduz became an independent parish after the consecration of the then church.

what makes this postcard the most special one is that it was actually mailed from Liechtenstein itself!!! so i can say that I am the proud owner of a card with a stamp and a postmark from Liechtenstein!! Which I consider to be quite rare. And the postmark itself is such a clear one...I love it!!!
The stamp was issued in 2009 in a set of two stamps called Four Seasons of Chateau Vaduz.

Vaduz Castle, Liechtenstein

The lazy postcard blogger is here...ta-da-aam! And yeah...she has been very lazy lately, thats obvious.
Im sorry for that, but ive just been feeling really tired lately, and thats all probably due to the fact that ive had a really rough week in general, i really hope that once its over, the new one would be better...there is always sunshine after the rain they say, so they better be right about it...and unlike last weekend, we are having a real spring sunshine here...its nice and warm, and ive tried to spend some nice time outside...and apart from the wind which caused me a headache eventually, it was nice for a change to have some sun...

And it wasnt a bad mail week either! Not my best probably, but definitely it has improved from the times i had been complaining about it :) Hopefully my next one will be a nice one as well....

I got this card on the great-mail-Friday-day when we had a snow storm here. It was a total, but more than a nice surprise...along with two other great cards in the envelope.
Well, i chose this one, since i desperately need a variety here, and its been a really long long time since i have had Liechtenstein card, so this is a real breath of fresh air :)
I just wonder one thing, and if some of you out there have Liechtenstein cards as well...do ALL of them have the Vaduz castle, or are there exceptions?? I have 3 different Liechtenstein cards so far, including this one, and Vaduz is on absolutely all of them...i mean, i know its important since his majesty lives there and all, but this is getting a bit vain! Im sure Liecthenstein has MANY other things to show and to be proud of than the Vaduz castle.
yeah, im in the mood to complain :P

Vaduz, Liechtenstein

Ha! First I have none, now I have 2 Liechtenstein cards :))) Well, honestly, I dont mind at all....since they are both different.

I wouldnt be repeating myself again about the Vaduz castle, if you want to you can click here and read the other post. Regarding this card, i want to say that those dark clouds above the castle, and that gloomy atmosphere, feel a bit like one of those movies with haunted castles...well, at least to me...and i like that impression nevertheless.

Castle of Vaduz, Liechtenstein

Remember the Heidi card i posted not so long ago? And how I said that i was actually offered Liechtenstein and that i went for it but when I saw the Heidi card, i changed my mind?
Well, Daniela, who sent me the Heidi card, completely unexpectedly, sent me a card of Liechtenstein as well....I guess she had read that my initial choice was Liechtenstein, so she decided to surprise me and send it to me, as a thank you for trading with her.....I must say i was literary caught of guard and extremely pleasantly surprised! Thank You Daniela for your thoughtfulness, a lot!!
My first card from Liechtenstein....adding one more country to my collection :D

Liechtenstein is a tiny (fourth smallest in Europe), doubly landlocked alpine country in western Europe bordered by Switzerland to its west and by Austria to its east, best known as a tax haven! It is one of the only two doubly landlocked countries in the world being a landlocked country wholly surrounded by other landlocked countries—the other is Uzbekistan.
As a country its not heavily urbanized. Many cultivated fields and small farms characterise its landscape both in the north (Unterland) and in the south (Oberland).
Most people speak Alemannic, a dialect of German, that is highly divergent from standard German. It is the smallest German speaking country in the world and the only country with a predominantly German-speaking population that does not share a border with Germany.

What can you see in the card is the Castle of Vaduz, which is the official residence of the prince of Liechtenstein (it has been the primary residence for the Royal Family since 1938). The Palace is named after the town Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. Unfortunately, it can not be visited by tourists.
