Abu Dhabi, UAE

A surprise card from Jean Pierre

The card shows the Roundabout Monument in Abu Dhabi but I have no idea what's the whole deal about it and what's its actual significance (reminds me a lot of Skopje when it comes to useless and insignificant sculptures and monuments...)

the two stamps are from a stamp sheet issued in 2011 consisting of 6 stamps in total and commemorating the 31st Session of the GDD Supreme Council.

Thank you Jean-Pierre!!

Sheikh Zayed Road Skyline, UAE

Last card for today comes from Dubai and from the JP fairy :)

the card shows the Sheikh Zayed Road Skyline, or the E11 Road as it is also known in Dubai, and is home to most of Dubai's skyscrapers, including the Emirates Towers
In Dubai itself much of the highway has five lanes in each direction. Hmm, here, three lanes in one direction is the most you can get usually :)
I just wonder if that is fog/smog that makes it look as if the city is all covered in dust hence the poor and unclear visibility of the buildings :)

the two stamps are from a set of 4 stamps issued in 2012, under the title World Energy Forum 2012.

Many thanks to JP for this lovely card and stamps, and to everyone, have a great week ahead!

Dubai, UAE

Another country which can be considered as rare...but as I had told you above....while keeping these rare countries for not-everyday postings, i eventually obtained some more cards from these places, so I thought it was about time to bring them to life.

and a card which doesnt show that pompous, million-dollar side of Dubai, but something totally different, and thats why I love it!
This is the Jumeirah Mosque, which is the largest and one of most beautiful ones, presenting a spectacular example of modern Islamic architecture, built in the medieval Fatimid tradition combined with modern building materials. This is the only city mosque that accepts non-Muslim visitors and only through organized Jumeirah Mosque tours. The only way for visitors to tour the mosque is to join one of the Jumeirah Mosque tours led by the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding. The organization’s goals are directed at nurturing cultural awareness through direct experiences and promoting first-hand insight into Islam.

So if you ever find yourself in Dubai, you are not a Muslim and are curious to see this mosque, here you will be given the chance.

the stamp on the left is from a set of very well-known defintiives, issued in 2009, in a set of 7, presenting birds. The other stamp comes from a set of 2 issued this year, with regards to Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

Thats all for today...hope you liked the choice of cards...till next time :)

Dubai, UAE

Well, after almost a whole week of silence, here i am. I think that ever since my concert got cancelled like two weeks ago, things just got hectic in general. They are gonna continue be like that for a while, until like mid of June at least, and ill definitely definitely have a busy summer...well, at least i managed to get to the post office today, which i feared wouldnt happen, since when i woke up it was raining heavily...and after all that heat i was complaining about, now its actually really cold and i somehow manage to get soaked on daily basis, since it rains every single day here...I really really hate this weather we are having here...well, lets get down to something useful...like stamps and postcards for example :)

My aunt gave me this card, and it was sent, as usual, by her friend Savica. In case you havent been here before, Savica is a friend of my aunt who lives in Switzerland and who travels somewhere each time she gets a chance...well, the good thing is that she always sends my aunt a postcard and since my aunt doesnt collect them, moreover complains she has nowhere to keep them, she gives them to me :) But I actually wish for once I receive a card from UAE addressed to ME, not my aunt...or someone else....well, maybe, some day....if anyone from UAE is reading this, and wants to swap, do let me know :)
Savica says that Dubai has changed a lot since the last time she had gone there, that new things are being built all the time  , and that there are building sites all around, dust and noise. But she says that the weather is great and the sea as well....
Well personally i dont like being at a place like that...when someone in my neighbourhood is having a house built or just does some renovation, i go crazy with all those hammers, drills, concrete mixers...and the worst thing is that they usually start working at 7 or 8am in the morning...urgh...
Im glad that for a change i can see something else from Dubai than the standard pictures...this card is called Dubai Marina, and it says: an awe inspiring city - within a city delights residents with its unique lifestyle.

Dubai Marina is a district in the heart of what has recently become known as 'new Dubai'. It was inspired by and designed to model the highly successful Concord Pacific Place development along False Creek in Vancouver, Canada. It is entirely man-made and will contain over 200 high-rise buildings and some supertall skyscrapers. Unlike other parts of Dubai there is a publicly accessible foreshoreway around the marina and some sections of public oceanway along the beach.

I think i was a bit lucky when searching for info for this stamp...i absolutely DONT understand a single thing in Arabic, so i have no idea whats the Arabic thing written on the stamp...but at least the year was written in a normal way.
So this stamp is from an issue of 7 definitives, from 2007, called the 5th set of Definitives. This new design shows the word "Emirates" in Arabic, shaped as a falcon. The backgrounds of the 7 denominations are all in different colours.

Dubai, UAE

I wonder why the cards from my aunt's friend simply lack the date...so i cant figure it out when she had been to a certain place, neither i can write it down when i had been given the card, so it places itself into the right category

According to the postcards, she had been to Dubai, twice so far...ive already posted the revious card, and this is the second one.
Well, more or less, to me they basically look the same, with the same sites showing, and the absolutely same tone of the colours, but still, its a different card, so its just great to have it in my collection...personally ive never received a card from UAE addressed to me personally...would be nice to change that
And i hope soon i will get to receive a few new countries...if all goes well, two should be on their way already...its just a question of time when they arrive...
its just a question of tiiiiimmeee...and its running after you...it wont be long until you do, exactly what they want you to... :))
sorry, couldnt help it...i know those lines have nothing to do with the postcard, but it simply came spontaneously to me...who is familiar with the lines, knows what im talking about and where they are coming from....:)

Dubai, UAE (01)

My aunt has a friend who constantly travels around the globe and I'm openly jealous at her :)
And she always sends a card to my aunt from where she goes, and since my aunt ain't a postcard collector, she gives them to me....which is the right thing to do :)

I think she went twice to Dubai and said its a place worth visiting...which i don't doubt at all!
Sometimes i wonder if i can maybe ask her to get several postcards for me from wherever she goes, doesn't need to send them, just collect them, and eventually send them all at once to me, or when she comes for a visit to Macedonia, bring them...I don't think she would say no, she is really nice and kind, but still, she is my aunt's friend, not mine....and i don't feel that comfortable to ask her, neither i want to put my aunt in some disadvantaged position.....but it would be really nice if it can happen....maybe....some day.....
