The British Isles

My last card for today (sorry if the overall update feels short) comes as an official I received last year.

GB-151990

It is a great map card...i love its colours and the shades of blue...and it seems to be perfect with this video I wanted to show you.
I know that there are some of you out there who had come across the doubts with regards to the United Kingdom, Great Britain and England...and whats what...and if it is appropriate to address the card as to England or maybe you should write down Great Britain....or UK...well, usually I dont go into too much into-depth thinking when addressing cards, but sometimes I get confused coz I obtain addresses written in a different way and while some contain only England, others state only UK...without mentioning England or Scotland or Wales or so...so here is the video for the utterly confused (like me)...and after watching it you will be either enlightened or even more confused :))

eeermmm?! ......

one of the standard Queen stamps...a definitive issued in a set of 5 in 2010.
btw, sorry if you thought I was gonna write about the Royal Wedding when seeing this post...not my cup of tea honestly :)

thank you for following and wishing you nice Labour Day if you are celebrating it....till next time...

Union Jack

And....here comes a new great flag to my flag-cards collection! With the million thank-you's going to Dee!

The back of the card has a short info:
Union Flag or Union Jack (named from the "Jack Staff" of a Naval Vessel). The flag represents the union of nations whose influence extends beyond the British Isles. A composite design of three national symbols: Red Cross of St. George (England), White Cross on Blue, St. Andrew (Scotland) and a Red Cross, St. Patrick (N.Ireland).

The PERFECT kind of a flag card!

Great Britain

Here comes a great map card coming from.....Great Britain!

And there you can actually spot William Shakespeare...one of my favourite writers ever....well...ok, i didnt always have this opinion about him, and i still say that his language and style of writing can be rather annoying and incomprehensive, but his works are masterpieces, thats for sure...his sonnets are amazing, his Macbeth, Merchant of Venice, King Lear, Hamlet, Othello, The Tempest are something everyone should read eventually (Im not crazy about Romeo and Juliet though).
As for his sonnets, i really dont know which one to choose to recommend...they all have their own depth and beauty...they all just feel timeless...

i tried to choose two....it was a hard decision, but if you hadnt read his sonnets yet, these are just to give you an idea about them :)

Sonnet 18

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Sonnet 73

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see'st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed, whereon it must expire,
Consum'd with that which it was nourish'd by.
This thou perceiv'st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well, which thou must leave ere long.

GTKY Christmas Cards

Hello Hello Hello! For the first time this year :)
Hope you have had a nice New Year's eve and that this year had a great start....mine was nice, just that it seems that i cant get enough sleep in general :)
Do you people make New Year Resolutions? I try not to, but ive made some this year, and i hope ill have the strength to stick up to them...and if you made resolutions as well, im wishing you all the necessary strength in the world so you keep up with them...*fingers crossed* :)

Well, enough chit-chat, lets show some stuff here...as its most convenient, i think, this is the time to show Christmas related stuff, no? So thats why todays posts will be all Christmas related

The first one is dedicated to the Christmas cards received through the GTKY thread....we arranged there with the ladies a nice Christmas Flamingo :) We were supposed to send each other Christmas cards, but with some rules applied...the cards HAD to be handmade and they had to have a quote/poem inside...so even though im totally anti-artistic, i decided to join, coz i knew if i didnt i would regret it...and im more than pleased to have done so....maybe my art skills suck, but what mattered eventually is the friendship...as we say, the cards were made with love, friendship, glue and paper :) So its the thought that counts....and here is what my thoughtful friends sent to me (im still waiting for the last one to arrive, and once it does, ill edit the post and post it here...)
No comments this time....i think the cards feel too personal and comments may just ruin the moment this time...so just feel the thoughtfulness and the friendship that comes along with them :)

The cards are posted in order they had been received...

from Essi in Finland
