Minnesota Wild Rice, USA

ok, one more for today only..

a lovely card sent by Maggie back in 2012....and since that was long ago, Im utterly confused with the words, RAS + swap on the backside, and have no idea in which category it should fit in  *feeling embarrassed* - that's what happens when I take YEARS literally to post some cards...maybe Maggie will remember though and save me :)

the card shows a wild rice field in Minnesota, and as the text on the back says:

The official state grain of Minnesota, Wild Rice, grows naturally in the shallow waters of lakes in the central and northern parts of the state. It is harvested from lakes in the traditional Anishinabe (Native American) way, from canoes.

I absolutely love rice, but I don't think I've ever tried wild rice...now Im curious...

and some summerish stamps :)  two Aloha stamps, with Hawaiian t-shirts, issued in 2012 in a set of 5...and another 2012 stamp from the set of Bonsai Trees, also issued in a set of 5 stamps...this one here shows the Black Pine.

Thanks a bunch Maggie!!

so, that would be all...hope August treated you well and you will leave it with nice memories...and hopefully September will be even better...it's about time to start getting ready for autumn...I just hope we will have an actual autumn, and not the summer-like one...

Saint Paul, USA

A nice night view of Minnesota's St.Paul

Got this card in the World Languages RR. Well, my sending partner was Russian, so I think she didnt have much trouble with the alphabet. BUT! My receiving partner was Japanese....and I was supposed to write a postcard in ORIGINAL Japanese characters...can you imagine?! Funny though, she perfectly understand what I wrote...though, if you are asking me, and if you give it to me to read it now, I would absolutely have no idea whats in there...but it was fun. Im anticipating the next round, wondering how lucky Ill be...I have a feeling ill get some odd language again :)

Apart from the Freedom Bell stamp, there is another nice one issued in 2009, commemorating Kwanzaa (which is observed from December 26 to January 1 every year).

Unfortunately, there is also one of those postal stickers, since the postage on the stamps wasnt enough, so they had to compensate the 10c like this =/

Minnesota, USA

The thoughtfulness of people sending official cards and sending me something which perfectly fits into my wishlist and of course, increases the number of map cards i have!

US-429682

No Facts and Figures on the back of the card....there are some on the front, in case you can manage to read them.
here is what it says:
- State Flower: Moccasin Flower  (first time i hear about it...)
- State Capital: St. Paul (im honestly AWFUL with the US-capitals issue)
- Motto: State of the North

Well, not much info given here, except that it also says its the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Thats something fascinating. But I have to say that my knowledge about Minnesota is really ignorant...the only times i actually come across it, is when sometimes i happen to hear on the news something about NBA and they mention something about the team.
Hmm, ive found some nice facts about Minnesota, but id rather spare them for some other time, in case i receive another different Minnesota map card, which would have those on the back.

I think ive already mentioned some of these stamps here, but this time i think that the one in the top right corner is worth mentioning, especially since it shows Alaska :)
Its a really nice stamp, issued in 2001, coming from the Scenic American Landscape-series, featuring Mt. McKinley.
