Morris Island Lighthouse, USA

Just like the last US card, here again we have a lighthouse, this time coming from South Carolina. Been a while since Ive posted a South Carolina card, so here is a good reason to show this one.

US-2124574

This beautiful card arrived as an official, showing the Morris Island Lighthouse, and as the back of the card says, the original Charleston Light, which is the sixth oldest station in the United States. With the original lighthouse of 1767 destroyed by the Confederate Army in 1861 to take a reference away from Union ships, the Morris Island Lighthouse was rebuilt in 1872. Standing 161 feet tall, when lighted it could have been seen 19 miles out to sea.

well, if you've been receiving mail from the US lately, probably you've seen this stamp...it seems to be used rather often...it is one of the latest Forever stamps, showing our beautiful planet Earth.

South Carolina, USA

Lately I got somewhat into getting officials....for some time i had put it o n stand-by coz first i couldnt manage along with the swaps...and i got some expired cards in a row and that somewhat put me off....but then one day i started receiving cards...and again my ratio was more received than sent...and i just had this itch to see where my cards were gonna go to...i planned to take like 3 addresses only, but guess what did i get...of course, US, DE and FI...i dont mind getting them, but now since those 3 were drawn out, i was really curios to see what will i get next...and I got France...and after a few hours, i couldnt sit still, so i pulled out another one, and got China (this one worries me since my previous to China is expired and this one is still travelling) and the last one was Italy! This is when i recalled what was the charm of sending officials...you never know what you'll pick, and that brings the excitement...just as you never know what you're gonna get...so once i get one or two officals back, ill again make a full pull out from the sea of addresses :) All the ones i sent got registered, except the Chinese one...so i hope ill get something in return soon...

US-310267

What i like about this, is the kind of card the sender chose to send me. Now i dont know if this was a lucky chance, or she had read thru my profile, and morever looked at my blog, and eventually sent me this...but first, you know how much i love map-cards...second, i already have one from South Carolina...but this one is different....so i was really wondering if she had checked what i already have or no....either way, im delighted and really thankful.

the card has the Fun Facts thing...ive already written some about South Carolina, but here ill go again...these are not EXACTLY the same :)

Capital:  Columbia
Area:  30,207 square miles
Statehood:  May 23, 1788 (8th state admitted)
Mottos:  Animis opibusque parati (Prepared in mind and resources)  and Dum spiro spero (While I breath, i hope)
Song:  "South Carolina on My Mind"
State Bird:  Carolina Wren
State Tree:  Palmetto
State Flower: Yellow Jessamine

wasnt there a song "Georgia on My Mind" as well? does it have anything to do with being a song of the state as this one above? am i just ranting maybe?

South Carolina, USA

And, dear Gaby  managed to surprise my mailbox again....with a lovely lighthouse postcard!

South Carolina Lighthouses

For centuries lighthouses have been elected to protect ships and guide them safely away from low shoals. Each lighthouse has individual markings making it readily identifiable from a distance. Advancements in technology have replaced many of the lighthouses, however many are operational and most are open to tourists and visitors providing a historic view of times gone by.

Gaby pointed out that on the card there is a lighthouse called "Bloody Point"....heh...very peculiar...but on the other hand i like it...reminds me for whatever reason of the Twin Peaks series :D And a gloomy cloudy atmosphere, with rough seas and dark blue skies and a hissing wind......and you just dont wanna e there when the nght falls...once im done with the update, ill google and see if there is any info of why is it called like that ....i got intrigued :)

Thanks a bunch Gaby....as always!

South Carolina, USA

I have two map cards to show off with today...yup, thats right, map cards!!!! Still havent been able to figure out why exactly i have developed such a fondness for map cards... I guess it may be coz of the fact that they go astray from regular cards, yet they are related to the place they represent...in addition, one thing i as well love about them is the ability to get creative in their production. Some can be regarded as cute coz of the kind of drawings, some can be classified as humorous, some as cynical, some as historic.....either way, they all require a greater or lesser level of imagination on how to represent your area/town/state/country through one of those map cards and how to best convey the messages and ideas to the world....hence i love them...

This one here represents the state of South Carolina in the USA. On the map you can see some particular spots and things which are significant for that part of the state. You can see the rivers and the lakes and the numbers of the main roads.

The state itself has two mottos:
- Prepared in mind and resources
- While I breathe, I hope

I like them both, esp. the second one, coz i find it to be terribly true for me, despite my way of seeing life quite often, as if things are hopeless....its the hope which always pushes me forwards and eases things when they get really tough.....its the hope which always dies last.

thanks a zillion-million to Gaby for sending me a map card!!! :D
