Podgorica, Montenegro

ok, one more card for today, sent by a long-absent postcrosser, but thanks to FB, I know he is doing just fine =)

The card shows the Church of St. George, which is the oldest Orthodox church in Podgorica, located at the foot of Gorica Hill, (that the town was named after). It was built between IX and XI century. During the turbulent history it had several repairs and rebuildings, so that its original look has not been fully preserved. The inside is decorated with frescoes that are the work of an anonymous artists.

Rajko used 3 nice stamps on this card...the two at the top were issued in 2010...the left one commemorates the 650th Anniversary of the Balsic Dinasty, while the other one is from a set of four Tourism stamps.
The bottom stamp was issued in 2011 in a set of two Art stamps (this one shows a painting by Vojo Stanić, a a Montenegrin painter and sculptor).

Hvala Riči na super razglednici i markice!!

So, that would be all for today folks! Till next time...

Boka Kotorska, Montenegro

I was so so so thrilled when a week ago or so I received some postcards from dear Sissel! I missed her in my mailbox and missed her around! So it is so heart-warming when you find such surprises in the mailbox!

And I can't believe it she's been so near me this time!! I hope that during one of her future travels, she will drop by here as well *wink wink* :)

Here she sent me a cool map card of the Boka Kotor Bay in Montenegro...driving along its coast offers you one of the most splendid views in the whole country! The bare thought of the Adriatic Sea makes me sigh...haven't been there for a while...there was this opportunity to go there for a day or two with my dad in September...Im not actually sure what his plan and intentions were, but I didn't really care...to his question: "Do you want to go by car to Budva (the most famous place in Montenegro)...." my answer was an immediate YES...didn't question the conditions or anything...unfortunately, nothing turned out from that...and right now it is just too cold to go there...so I guess Ill have to wait for another opportunity....and invade some other places in the meantime. *cough cough cough* :P

Sissel used two stamps...the left one was issued in 2009 under the name Universiade. The other one was issued in 2010, as a part of two Art stamps.

well, the map Sissel sent me reminded me I had two other maps of the Boka Kotor Bay that I bought myself when I went there in 2009...and making the comparison, the publishers have really advanced on the topic...the map above looks somewhat plain...the map below reminds me of a pack of cigarettes...Im not exactly sure why though...

Thanks a lot again Sissel for the lovely surprises!!!!

Crno jezero, Montenegro

here comes something from not so far away....
ч

I have to admit that from the bird's perspective, many Montenegrin lakes seem the same to me...the shapes and the wood surroundings....so unless it is written on the card or the sender tells me about it, I highly doubt I would be able to distinguish them.
And this lake here is Krupačko jezero (jezero=lake) which is in the vicinity of Nikšić.....where a monster lives, in case you didnt know....maybe the Montenegrin version of Loch Ness  :))))))))))))))))))))))))  Sorry R., couldnt resist it! :D

Unfortunately, the internet is rather stingy on giving some more detailed information about this lake, so I will leave it up to the natives to tell you more about it if they want.

edit: well, i should trust my sixth sense next time...and instead of thinking that all lakes in Montenegro are alike, that THAT is actually the lake it reminds me of and that it is not another one...but see how wrong information on the back can mislead you...so this is the Black Lake on the mountain Durmitor as I initially thought...funny thing is, at first I wanted to post a Durmitor card (all covered in snow) but then I thought, ok, I already had one card posted related to it, lets bring something new....well, I guess, Durmitor was destined to appear here :)

and due to the nature of the post, I wont delete the above information :)

thanks a lot  to Rajko for clarifying my doubts on this one!

the two stamps on the card are from 2008. The left one is from a set of two stamps called Radost Evrope (or, the Joy of Europe), while the other one is from a 'mixed issue' set and says to depict 'historic heritage'.

Thanks a lot to Maria for sending this one!

Montenegro

Here is one lovely map card!

well, this one has some sort of a story...I got some of these map cards last summer....I was actually over-excited when I saw them, and had to grab more than one...but of course, in the end they could be found nowhere....yeah, tourists know what's most popular.
Anyways, since my mum went there last September, I asked her to look for some map cards again, and in case she didnt find any, I gave her mine so that she could send it to me written and stamped from there...now, I dont know if this is my last year's card or if it is one of the new ones she got, but it doesnt really matter...what matters is that I have it here with me...thank you so much mum!!!

And i must mention, that compared to the cards available last summer, this year, they have really gone down....pity.

the stamp is from a mixed 2008 issue, containing 3 stamps.

Herceg Novi, Montenegro

Ok, this last card would be more like whining and complaining....

Well, I am just recalling my last year's holiday in Montenegro and how it was so fantastic...and this year I am going nowhere....and that make me feel devastated. In general, I have never had a problem if I need to spend the summer in Skopje, but this year for some reason, it is all so different...this year I am just craving to go somewhere, to get out of here, to have a rest from it all, to be in the sun, by the water....but unfortunately this year it cant happen...and it has never felt so unbearable....I cant really explain the reasons, but thats how it is...I wont even be too picky about where to go, as long as I am to go somewhere....
the stamp is from a set of 4 issued in 2006, representing the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany.
Thanks to Rajko for sending me this card, which I actually won in his lottery :)

thats all for today folks...see  you again, sooner or later...

Kotor, Montenegro

One of the way too many cards I bought this past summer....too bad that with the huge cards, you cant actually grasp their actual size through here...

The old city of Kotor is one extremely beautiful city (all old cities seem to be)..... I had the chance to visit it and climb up the old fortress until the very top, where the victorious flag stands. It was a great day, esp. since I didnt really plan it ahead...but I really loved it. The several things you MUST have in case you decide to go up to the top, are: a camera, comfortable non-slippery trainers, water and to be in a good physical condition....otherwise you'll run out of breath on the first corner :)

And its really enjoyable up there....calm and peaceful and you can just enjoy the view in front of you..the city of Kotor, the Boka-Kotor bay...the Adriatic Sea.....ahhhhhhhhhh...

I just wanna thank to Anastasia for making me company on that day, and for actually convincing me to go....made the trip feel really great (along with the postcard hunt afterwards.....I always laugh when I remember the post office we went to and the cute guys who worked there :P)

Durmitor, Montenegro

One of the numerous cards i bought to myself during my stay in Montenegro this year.

And i really like this edition of huge cards they have...not only coz they are huge...but they have beautiful images as well!
This card shows the Lake Škrčko below the Bobotov Peak (2,523 m), the highest peak on Mt. Durmitor.
And Durmitor is also one of the two UNESCO whs in Montenegro, so now i finally have Montenegro complete...boy...this sounded as if Montenegro had 20 UNESCO whs and now, after loads of hard work, i had finally been able to collect them all.
Unfortunately, this is one of the places in Montenegro i didnt manage to visit even though i wanted to...but there were no excursions organized for there in particular, so unless you arrange it on your own, you dont have much of a choice of how to get there...so maybe next time ill be more lucky and have the chance to go there...it definitely is a beautiful place and more than worth seeing.

Greetings from Budva, Montenegro!! And yeah, im BACK :P

Yessss, im finally back home...and welcome back to me :D
I actually came back last Wednesday, but first it took me a few days to get back together, and settle myself and all my mail...and then i was also waiting for this card to arrive which i sent to myself, particularly intended for my come back post...and finally it arrived today, so i can get down to writing something...
And as you can see, i went to Budva in Montenegro...but i won give you facts and figures about it this time (i think ive already done it with my previous posts about Budva, and I still have a number of cards from there to dedicate them to history, geography, culture, and stuff like that. Ill just make a quick explanation for those who may not know...on the card you can see only the Old City....not the actual Budva where the hotels and holiday residences and people's houses are...and my guess is that this picture was taken in winter or so, since during the season, along the Old City Walls there are coffee-shops, and many people on the streets...oh, and you can take a glimpse of the numerous yachts parked at the dock...some really stunning :)
Ill use this card to tell you some bits and pieces about my stay there...i just fear that its gonna turn into a huge post...so i recommend a cup of coffee, good music in the background, comfy chair, and enough time ahead before you start reading :)

Well, i guess i should go to the very beginning or to the time before i departured actually.
I didnt really plan to go anywhere this summer...ive never been someone with the *i must go on holiday* itch...but one day while i was having a shower, i just had a moment of 'fuses connecting' and it was an instant decision that i MUST go somewhere...running away from reality? Well, probably...but sometimes you really have to do that in your life, when that reality starts choking you big time.
So, the initial decision was made, and then i had to get down to making a more particular one, like choosing my destination (n.b. choosing people wasnt involved from the very start coz i wanted to go all by myself....reasons for that? PLENTY).
The first thought about my destination was Budva...but then i also started considering Croatia (it simply remained my all time favourite part of the Adriatic Coast) and Turkey (Ive never been there, and even though i talked how i wouldnt want to spend my summer holiday there, i took it as an option this time). Ok, i also had Tenerife and Northern Cyprus on my list, but i realized that it would be better to leave them for some other time. After loads of consideration, my final decision fell on Budva....why? well, its much cheaper than Turkey and Croatia, i know the place, so i can get around very well (and for going alone, it was the most convenient option), plus it offers a lot things to see outside it....so, i made my decision, paid for the arrangement the next day, and after two days i left...yeah, a very last minute decision, which turned out as one of the best decisions ive made in my life...i think that when you have the least time to plan something and think about it and have your expectations, the better it turns out.
And i have to say, that from what i planned, barely anything turned out so. What I planned was to idle, relax, spend as much time on the beach as possible, write all my left-behind letters, visit one or two places around....but the circumstances dictated things a bit differently.
First of all, the weather wasnt really friendly the first days (and in some upcoming as well) so my plan to sit on the beach went downhill.
My plan for visiting places didnt turn out as initially expected as well...first, coz they offered many great places to be seen and i had to go to as many as possible (not just one as i thought). But due to the weather, my initial arrangement about it didnt quite turn out either...
and last, but not least, i met some really great people there... with whom it was really fun and cool to hang out with and spend time with, have coffee with, go to the beach with, play cards with etc etc.. (yeah, when it rains constantly for 3 days, you cant do much but play cards :))
Anyways, with all that, my plan to catch up with all my mail, read all that bunch of books i brought with me,  went downhill as well, since i had literally no time for that, but i didnt mind it one bit...
After the first half of my holiday, those great people left unfortunately, but thats why i had Anasty to make my second half just as great as my first one...what makes it so special, is that in my so long career of knowing people from abroad as my pen-pals or people i exchange postcards with, Anasty is the first one i met for real...Anasty from Russia...im sure that to many of you that name sounds more than familiar :)
Well, i accidentally, just before i left, found out she was going to Montenegro too, and i told her i was going there as well, and we said we had to meet...it would have been such a pity if after i came back i found out she was at the same place i was (she was actually staying 5 min. away from me) and that we didnt meet...so this was such a great thing to happen, which i still sometimes cant believe it, but i have the pictures to prove myself we really were there :) (Oh, if you are a regular reader and you havent seen the pics from the holiday but you would love to, just let me know, and ill send you the link :)
As i already mentioned above, i went on a bunch of excursions too, but i wont give you any details now...ill let you know about them through postcards and stories behind them. But these excursions also gave me the chance to meet some really really awesome people.
Speaking of postcards....i had sent out PLENTIFUL of postcards while being there....a real real lot, trying not to forget anyone...though i know someone might have slipped from the list (thats what happens when you send out 50 postcards)...and i know there is always this chance for a postcard getting lost....but in case you dont receive a postcard from me, and you feel you had deserved to get one, then i really apologize and will make it up to you one way or another...the last thing i would want is that someone feels left out when thats my last intention to do so.
Another thing regarding the postcards...when i went to send that huge pile, i actually had to put the stamps all by myself...so we had stamps for first category (Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia), stamps for second category (rest of Europe) and third category (outside Europe). Can you imagine how it feels to be licking stamps in the middle of the post office for like 40 cards (the amount i sent the first time) and on top of that, to have to put one of those airmail stickers for each card in the 2nd and 3rd category??? and someone would say postcard sending is an easy thing to do...he he he ....well, not easy, but certainly a pleasurable one :)
Btw, i also tried to use that sponge they actually use in the post offices for the stamps...but didnt quite work out for me...i always ended up with a part of the stamp totally unglued, so i got back to the licking (even though they say its not really the healthiest approach).
So in case you receive a card from me, with a badly glued stamp, know that its my fault...and im sorry..
Hmm, well...what else can i tell you in this short summary....i think that this was one of the holidays that changed me a lot...for the good or for the bad, i dont know, but i feel changed on the inside...its a holiday which brought me my so longed for peace of mind while i was there...and which i feel is fading away now that im back....which just again proves this love-hate relationship i have with this town and this country and all...I really need to get away from here, and if that could be somewhere by the sea, it would be perfect, coz the sea calms me down...a lot..its an effect i cant explain, but its present.
So, in short-words, that would be it....there are plenty and plenty of other details to tell...but ill save some for my other postcards from this holiday...and some, ill selfishly keep to myself only...sorry :P
and i really like these stamps...not only coz of the blue background, but they are just lovely stamps (on the left one there is a trace from a pen, and i have no idea where it came from...)
this stamp is from a set of two issued in 2007, called simply Fauna...the other stamp in the set is from a 0.50 €, representing an eagle.

aahh, feels good to be able to make my first post here after a long while, though i must mention that while i was away i didnt miss my computer, the internet....ANYTHING....it even felt good to be able to live without them and not feel so dependent on them.
While i was away, i had received loads and loads of great mail, new countries as well, so hopefully, now that my come-back post is done, ill get back to the updates regularly, and show you all those lovely cards i had received.

thank you for reading, and for still being a part of this. Hope you are all enjoying your summer holidays!!

See Ya!

Budva, Montenegro

My dad brought me this card when he went to Budva. Im just trying to recall whether it was 2006 or 2007....it all weighs towards 2007, but i may be wrong...and actually, i just checked and its....2008! Either i have some wrong perception of time, or i dont know whats wrong with me...

Well, Budva may not be one of my favourite places to go to in summer...but as it looks on the pictures, i would really like to be there right now. Its not crowded, the beach on the top left picture is totally empty, and it feels as if thats what i need right now. To get away from everything and everyone for a couple of days and give my mind some rest...being alone, with just the sound of the sea and the waves...that feels sooo calming!
It doesnt have to be Budva, it can be just any nice place out there, as long as i can totally distract from current things for a bit...and recharge myself...and come back in a much much better mood....hopefully :)
My dad would be going to Belgrade...i wish i could go as well, but he is coming back tomorrow...and i would prefer to stay a couple of days...plus my obligations in general just dont let me.....ahh, maybe next time...maybe...
Well...its the Earth Hour today...and while writing today's update, i decided to give my support to it and turn off everything for one hour. I could survive without them....not that im gonna make an enormous overall contribution, but i just want to make some, and feel myself useful...and it would be could if people got more conscious about it, not just today, but throughout the year.
if 8:30 pm still hasnt reached your country, then think about it, and if you are not in urgent need of aplliances and all, then give your support as well!
Ill see you tomorros ;-)

Montenegro

As I already mentioned something above, Montenegro didnt declare its independence until just recently, when on 3rd June 2006, it separated from Serbia and became the 192 second member state of the United Nations.
Did you know that while being a part of Yugoslavia, all the republics had a town which had the name of Josip Broz Tito in it? For example, Montenegro's capital today, Podgorica, used to be Titograd (or Tito's town if we translate it). In Macedonia, we had Titov Veles which today remained as Veles only. In Serbia there was Titovo Užice, which today is known as Užice only. Then...hmmmm....there was also Titov Vrbas in Serbia, in the province of Vojvodina...while in the province of Kosovo there was Titova Mitrovica, which today is known as Kosovska Mitrovica. Bosnia had Titov Drvar, today known as Drvar, Croatia had Titova Korenica, and Slovenia had Titovo Velenje. Of course, with the decay of Yugoslavia, they were all soon renamed.
There were also many streets and squares within the cities named after him....and in Macedonia there was even one mountain peak, called Titov Vrv....but thats all gone now...

Regarding the card now, i really love this one. I think that my mum brought it to me but i cant make sure if it was the summer she went alone  there or from the times she went with my dad...
Anyway, on the card you can see some of the Montenegro Islands scattered in the Adriatic Sea.
Ive only been to St. Stefan, and i know it was somewhat exclusive to go there...and i know that i dont know how i managed but i broke the chair i was lying on on the beach...it felt embarrasing, since i was just lying on it and all of a sudden there was this crack and the chair hit the ground. I really wonder what does it take to be able to break a chair on a beach just like that...yeah, i dont really feel comfortable when i recall that...there, now you know one of my embarassing secrets :)

Montenegro

I didnt actually intend to do an update today...apart from the fact i spend way too much time at the pc due to work, i have way too much work to do as well...but I was told that the deadline which was like supposed to be tomorrow, first postponed for Tuesday, and then for Thursday...and i felt some sort of relief, coz im way too much behind with the work, and now Thursday seems somewhat i can manage...though if i keep going with this pace I doubt, esp. since while I have to work on one document, i get others in the meantime as well...plus the lessons i have to prepare for next week and all...and i really have no idea how im gonna manage it all...but at least the pressure i feel had eased a bit...of course, it doesnt mean i can just go and idle now, but at least it doesnt feel so helpless now...and i fell somewhat disappointed with some people and i just need some remedy and clearance of thoughts...and this is my refugee...

Anyway...even though this card is about Montenegro...my post has nothing to do with Montenegro..but more with the dog on the picture...now, i know some of you will know what im gonna rant about...and feel free to skip this longish post...but i just feel inspired and find it appropriate for this card...

So...whats the deal...few days ago, out of nowehere a small puppy appeared in my garden (not one bit as the one on the card, but this is like the only card I have which features a dog :)). Anyway...the puppy was the most adorable fluffy thing i had seen..small and white...well, it was soo dirty and sticky that you couldnt call it white..but it was defintiely way too adorable...i regret not having taking a single picture of it...and it was way too lively coz it wouldnt stop running and jumping and going around...way too playful...and way too hungry coz it ate whatever i had given him...the sweetest thing was when i noticed that it accomodated himself (or herself, i dont know actually...but ill go for himself) in my mum's pot flowers...and was pretending to sleep, but when i would come around, it would raise its head, start waving its tail and jump to me...if it wasnt so dirty, i would have squeezed the hell out of him of hugging...we played with small balls as well, and he would run after them, bring them back to me, or hide them again behind my mum's pot flowers...i really dont know why he so much wanted to be around those pot flowers...some feeling of safety i guess...anyway...eventually i had to leave for work and was wondering if it would be there when i come back...well, it was...in my neighbours garden actually, he found a whole in the fence to be able to move here and there, but when i called him he came to me, again all jumping, yupping, running...waving its tail....a real real sweetheart....a few hours later, he went to sleep and he even found himself a hidden place for it...i really dont know how he managed but he was managing with everything perfectly, even though he was here for the first time...an incredibly incredibly smart puppy!!  Well...the following morning i woke up really early...partially coz i had work to do, partially coz of him...but to me greatest disappointment, he was gone...and hadnt come back until now....if it wasnt for my mum and dad to see him as well, I swear i would have thought it was all a hallucination...I still hope it would come back...and frankly, im gonna do whatever it takes this time not to let him go...i know my cat wont be happy, even though the puppy wanted to play with him and was teasing him and all...but i think that with time, they will settle down together...I just hope it would come back one day soon...he made me fall for him at an instant..and then just left...its really not fair...i wonder if it would have been better if he never showed up in my life at all...I wonder why things or people you care for the most just dont stay....life...

btw, this card was sent to me by my mum and dad back in 2001 from their holiday in Budva...a funny thing my mum had written on the card is: "Today its pouring, but its great for walking". I dont get it...if its pouring, how can it be great for walking?? it not a drizzle or a light rain....its pouring...or as the British would say..its raining cats and dogs....ha...now this is an irony :)

Budva, Montenegro (04)

My dad went to Montenegro for 10 days...and when he got back, he brought me 7 postcards! Which wouldnt be surprising in general, but he brought me the cards without me even mentioning anything...

I talked him on the phone a few times while he was there, but due to the way our conversations went with 'yes...aha...no...i dont know..maybe', i never found it appropriate to bring up the issue of postcards....I really wonder why is it so impossible sometimes to make a decent conversation with my dad, esp. over the phone.. So when he got back and gave the cards to me, i was more than pleasantly surprised.... and felt somewhat guilty coz i just kept (and still do) thinking that i didnt deserve them....it really bothers me that I cant show my dad any appreaciation of the things his does due to how our relation in general is...it really sucks coz the overall impression is that i dont care one bit and am totally reckless about it all...which is toally wrong...i really hope one day he'll be able to realize that...

Sveti Stefan, Montenegro (02)

A woman gave this card to my mum when she went to Montenegro few years ago...of course, my mum gave the card to me...

its a rather huge card...both in height and width...it shows one of the touristic places in Montenegro, Sveti Stefan (or St. Stefan, in English).
It used to be a tidal island, but is now permanently connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. (Gibraltar is also connected to Spain by an isthmus).

Ive been to St. Stefan once or twice...but unfortunately, i cant invoke any particular memories about it. I never actually resided there, but  just went on a one day stay. This is mainly coz St. Stefan is actually considered to be the most exclusive resort in Montenegro, so it takes a rather deeper pocket to be able to afford a decent stay there.
I dont know if i believe in coincidences or not, but in my last few posts, they do take a great deal...i have just read that as of September 8 2008, St. Stefan is closed while being completely renovated. While closed, the beaches north and south of the island are open to anyone along with beach side parking which costs 12 Euros. Local sources predict Sveti Stefan will re-open late 2009.

I had totally no idea about this, and picked up this postcard at a very random...i wondered if i should maybe show a card of Budva or some other place in Montenegro, and eventually my choice fell on this...it wouldnt have been so weird if September 8th wasnt actually today!

12 Euros for parking...thats a real lot...no wonder its considered exclusive.

Ostrog, Montenegro

Well, not a newly received card actually....not that im out of cards...i have like over 20 pending....but i got this insane idea that i need to mingle my older ones as well...i mean, i barely manage to keep up with the newly received ones, so i dont know how i will with these ones added on top of that...but i was thinking...and the moment i started uploading my newly received cards, i had like hundreds of the previous ones which i had put on stand by...and at this rate, turns out ill never upload them...or i will in some distant future....so i decided to do it now, and mingle them with the new cards.....another reason for this is that i like having a variety here...and by that, i mean, cards from different countries....if you have noticed, i barely post 2 cards of the same country on a same day even if i have like 5 to post from that particular country....and by including these old cards, ill increase the variety, since most of those are from places ill most probably wont get a card now (both officials and swaps), so it really will bring some difference here....plus youll get to see more different stuff.....well, i personally like the idea...i hope you as well....and if we get realistic...the chances i get an official card from Montenegro are scarce....the chances for me to ask for a swap are even lesser, mainly coz i have too many cards from there.....so...there we go.....:))))

This card here was sent to me by my mum and dad in 2001 during their stay there......with a simple and concise message on the back: "Something very beautiful".

Well, it surely is, no?
The Monastery of Ostrog is of the Serb Orthodox Church placed against an almost vertical background, high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda, in Montenegro, dedicated to Sveti Vasilije Ostroški (Saint Basil of Ostrog).

It is the most popular pilgrimage place in Montenegro, visited by believers from all parts of the world, representing the meeting place of all religions: Orthodox, Catholics, Muslims. According to the stories of pilgrims, by praying by his body, many have been cured and helped in lessening the difficulties in their lives.

(Maybe I should give it a try....)
