Sheffield, England

I love the bright tone of this postcard

It shows the Edgar Allen Building, at the University of Sheffield in South Yorkshire - England

The University of Sheffield's magnificent turreted Edgar Allen Building, viewed from Weston Park. Designed by the architect Mitchell Gibbs, it was opened by the Prince of Wales (later King George v) in 1909. The cost was some £10,000, generously paid for by the local steelmaker Edgar Allen.

heh, and i actually initially thought it may be somehow related to Edgar Allan Poe....

New Mexico, USA

If it wasnt for Gaby, i wouldnt have had 1/3 of the US map cards in my collection!  And this one came as total surprise in my mailbox!! So with a HUUUGGEE Thank you to dear Gaby, i can tick off New Mexico as a state from which I have a map card

Do you know what I utterly love about this postcard? Reminds me of coffee, coz of the brownish tone it has. I dont see any relation to coffee on the card, but to me this card is like a delicious cup of coffee...maybe a small resemblance to chocolate as well, but coffee wins with no doubt :)

Anyway, it has text on the back, which is perfect, so here you go, instead that you read my rants :)

New Mexico

Known as the "Land of Enchantment", New Mexico's first exploartion by European settlers was in 1540, by Francisco Vázquez Coronado, a Spanish explorer searching for gold. New Mexico was the 47th state to join the US, and gained statehood on January 6, 1912.

It really makes me wonder? Is there any actual connection between New Mexico and coffee actually? I tried to google, but all it gives me are coffee shops in New Mexico...

Romania

I really dont know how i  got this card...Im almost positive its from a friend who had been to Romania, but i cant tell from whom, since two of them had been there

well, apart from this postcard and another (a normal one :)) I also got two identical mugs (one from each friend)....well, i dont know if you know, but I collect mugs as well, and so far have over 150 of them, which means i have no room to keep them, but still i keep buying them...i just love mugs and im especially happy when i can find a 'collection' of 3-4-5 or more mugs so then I try to collect all the mugs belonging to that collection
If there was a mug-exchanging thing, most probably I would have done it...but I doubt there will ever be a secure way to transport them thru regular mail....
Anyway, I was talking about the mugs i got...even though they are identical, i keep them both, coz i put more value to friendship than if what they had given me is the same or not...and the mug itself has a picture of Dracula's face, inside the mug, along the drinking line its said "To be used only for blood" and on the mug there is a 'nice' recipe for you to try it out

Transylvanian Cocktail

50ml blood type AB
30ml blood type A
20ml blood type O
with lemon and ice

if anyone ever gives it a try, can you please let me know how it tasted? :))
Thank you :P

Zürich, Switzerland

By posting these cards, i came to realize that I actually have a big number of rather oldish cards...by oldish i mean cards from the time before I was born...and this is one of them, dating from exactly 40 years ago....and its really well preserved...I hope that my cards will be in great condition as well 40 years from now and longer

The first thing that crosses my mind when it comes to Switzerland is chocolate...ok, i dont know whats wrong with me tonight, since things either remind me of coffee or chocolate
One thing i hate is that here we dont actually get to taste the REAL Swiss chocalte...but we eat things produced at some other countries who have the liscence to produce certain products BUT it aint the actual production...coz its known that the Toblerone we eat here tastes somewhat different than the Toblerone originally manufactured in Switzerland....I definitely know Nestlé does...and another thing I hate is the limited kinds of Nestlé chocolates we have here or Milka...or Ritter Sport...or any other (ok, they are not all Swiss, but still)
Ive seen some kinds of the above mentioned chocolates with such fillings and tastes that we had absolutely never seen in stores here...to make it even worse, they seem soo damn tasty and delicious..or at least my kind of chocoalte...and the ones i can get at the store seem soo poor compared to those...yeah well, im a spoilt brat sometimes....

Toronto, Canada

Hey people...i should be working...I have a LOT of work to do by the end of the week, but i dont feel like doing it one bit and there is this drive which keeps dragging me here...and i just dont want to skip updates, coz eventually i end up not posting anything for days...so...here I am...plus this is like some kind of a drug.....so i need to take my daily doses :P

I totally totally love this card!! the colours, the magic, the brightness, the happines it radiates with...its just amazing what a feeling it invokes inside of me!
The card actually shows the "Holiday Season lights up Nathan Phillips Square and Old City Hall" in Toronto.

ahh, just look at that joy....I hate holidays, but i love this card....makes me feel happy for some reason, even though I totally hate things like Christmas and New Year....

Kelimutu, Indonesia

A really magnificent view of a magnificent place...

Kelimutu is a volcano close to the town of Moni in central Flores Island of Indonesia containing three summit crater lakes of varying colors. Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old People) is usually blue and is the westernmost of the three lakes. The other two lakes, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched or Enchanted Lake) are separated by a shared crater wall and are typically green or red in color, respectively. The lake colors do vary on a periodic basis.
Subaqueous fumaroles are the probable cause of active upwelling that occurs at the two eastern lakes.

Mother nature really leaves me speechless sometimes.....

Copenhagen, Denmark

I sometimes really regret not having paid attention when and how i had received certain cards and who actually sent them to me or who gave them to me or whatever...well, this is one of them...its origin is totally unknown to me...though I can make a number of guesses but I have no idea which one is right...

Anyway, the back of the card names the things you can see on the pictures, and here is what it says:

Nyhavn,
Rundetårn,
Tivoli,
Amaliehaven,
Livgarden,
Den lille Havfrue

well, I hope you understood it...the only one I can totally understand is Tivoli...the rest, i can guess from the pictures what they actually may mean

anyway, whenever I think of Copenhagen, i think of cycling, and the thing that frustrates me most right now is that my bike keeps having problems with the tyres..and its always out of order...and its really annoying coz for me its like my basic means of transport, and now im left without it and i have to walk everywhere, which takes 5 times more time than when i would be using my bike...we really should have bikes for rent here for a very cheap price so i could afford it on long-terms..

Singapore

Here is a card from Singapore and this one in particular, showing the Singapore flyer...

The Singapore flyer is a giant observation wheel. The final capsule was installed on 2nd October 2007, the wheel started rotating on 11th February 2008 and it officially opened to the public on 1st March 2008.
Reaching 42 stories high, the Flyer comprises a 150 m diameter wheel, built over a three-story terminal building, giving it a total height of 165 m .Each of the 28 air-conditioned capsules is capable of holding 28 passengers, and a complete rotation of the wheel takes approximately 30 minutes.

Easter Island, Chile

I love the name of Easter Island..sounds really cool, and makes me think that its actually a place where small colourful chocolate eggs are hidden all over it, and children with baskets in their hands run all over it in order to find as more delicious chocolate eggs as possible...
Well, ok...Easter Island isnt even close to my imagination, but the place itself is fascinating indeed.

The Easter Island (also called Rapa Nui, or Isla de Pascua in Spanish) is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian triangle. The island is a special territory of Chile. Easter Island is famous for its monumental statues, called 'moai' created by the Rapanui people. It is a world heritage site with much of the island protected within the Rapa Nui National Park.

The large stone statues, or moai, for which Easter Island is world-famous, were carved during a relatively short and intense burst of creative and productive megalithic activity. The period when the statues were produced remains disputed, with estimates ranging from 400 CE to 1500–1700 CE. Almost all (95%) moais were carved out of distinctive, compressed, easily worked volcanic ash or tuff found at a single site inside the extinct volcano Rano Raraku.

Algarve, Portugal

I got this one back in the year 2000 from my penpal Leen Frenssen....just now this reminded me of a Pulp song, called Disco 2000....it goes something like this...

I said let's all meet up in the year 2000 Won't it be strange when we're all fully grown.....

again, a line which in some sense deals with the inevitable passing of life and how things just change all along the way...and there is nothing you can do about it, nothing can freeze us in time and have the moments last forever and ever...

Algarve is a place in the south of Portugal and Marta says it doesnt attract her that much but that there are beautiful beaches there...what you can see on the card is Alvor.
Alvor is an ancient port and fishing village on the mouth of the River Alvor in the western Algarve. In the village we can visit the remains of a 13th century castle, a 16th century church and an attractive jumble of narrow cobbled lanes with the original low traditional fisherman’s cottages.

"The Alvor Beach has the particularity of marking the division between the Ocean and the Alvor River. Therefore, besides the very extensive sandy area, one can also find an interior lagoon with channels of calm waters. The huge sandy barrier as far as the eye can reach, allows the visitor to choose the place that better suits his interests. In this beach there is also a great fauna and flora diversity. The Alvor Beach is one of the most famous and looked for Beaches in the Algarve".

well, since Marta has the exactly same card  I copied this whole post from her blog....plus she is Portuguese...is there a better source to get information for a Portuguese card?   I just hope Marta wont mind :)  Marta ?!

Geiranger, Norway

After such a long time, finally a card from Norway!! I really dont know why such a lack of Norwegian cards in my collection...Norway aint a hard country to get.....if I didnt love Norway that much, i probably wouldnt have paid attention, but since Norway is one of my favourite places, it really bothers me to have so very little cards from there.....I really hope that will change...

Geiranger is a small tourist town in the western part of Norway. It lies at the head of the Geirangerfjord which is a branch of the Storfjord. Geiranger is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, and has been named the best travel destination in Scandinavia. Since 2005, the Geirangerfjord has been listed as a UNESCO whs.
It has been said that the Geiranger fjord is one of nature's masterpieces and that the title 'the most beautiful fjord in the world' is no exaggeration.

Well, most beautiful or no....it is the things like this which make Norway as one of my top favourite places in the world.

Thank you Rine for the lovely card!

Egypt

A card from my friend Marija Dz...from her visit to Egypt, in the year of i-dont-know-when....she brought me this card from there so there is no stamp cancellation which maybe would have helped me in the discovery...though all it takes is a short phone call to ask her, or that the next time i see her, i ask her for all the years for the trips she had been to, so i can update things here as well...but if right now i know i should do it, when i actually talk to her, it is totally out of my mind...well...its not THAT important, eitherway....

well, ive talked of Egypt a bit already...ill tell you this time what Marija says on the card :)
"The Pyramids are wonderful, the Sphinx is still without a nose and the Red Sea is actually blue" :)))

when i was little I actually was pretty confused of how a sea could be red or yellow or black or even dead :)  Kids :)))

Alf

Ok...lets get childish and go back in time when i was one....

I bought this card when i was really little....I have no idea where i had bought it but i know for sure it wasnt here....the text is in Slovenian...so I might have bought it there, though i cant recall going there...the most probable option is that i may have bought it in Croatia, but i cant guarantee...anywya, if anyone has Alf postcards, can you please, pretty please send them to me?? I would love to have them!!

I dont know if you had watched the Alf series, but when i was little, it was one of my favourites...i recently downloaded them and watch them again, even though the humour and all may feel outdated and the whole thing boring compared to all the modern fancy series that are shown nowadays, but personally i still love Alf, and could watch it over and over again....when i was little I actuall wished I had an Alf as a pet, someone who would keep me company and someone i could talk to whenever i felt like it... I guess thats due to the lack of any siblings, so I wanted to replace them with a creature like Alf (or even E.T :))
I cant post whole seasons here, but here are some of the Alf-moments that I wanted to share....Alf just has the facial/body expressions which crack me up and make the humour from back then, still funny to me...

Intro:

one of my favourite episodes with the asparagus :))

La Cucharacha

some best-of moments:

and in order not clog up the page and its loading, this will be enough in order to introduce you Alf, in case you hadnt known him already...and if you happen to have an Alf-postcard, you know where to send it :)

Serbia (03)

This past weekend I went on a one day trip to Belgrade...well, I spent a whole day there and another 18 hours or so in travelling back and forth....which is maybe a lot for spending just one day there, but right now i couldnt afford to stay longer, and frankly, it was worth it...more than a lot
I love Belgrade, and spending some time there is always worth it...my initial reason was to attend the book fair but I also wanted to see my uncle and cousin and give them money for the concert ticket I want to go to (coz unfortunately, i cant order the ticket from here) and I just wanted to get away from everything here....so the book fair was a perfect excuse this time...but honestly, next time I decide to go there, i wont be looking for excuses...its enough that the whole place makes me feel good...its like going for a lunch in some other neighbouring town, even though Belgrade is around 450 km away from Skopje...Im adventurous, to trips like this are more than welcomed...

One of the things i also wanted to do was to send a bunch of postcards, but I figured out it was gonna take me all day long to write 30+ postcards so I gave it up...I still feel sorry I  couldnt do it, but with the time i had available, spending it on writing postcards all day just wasnt possible...so hopefully next time, when i get to stay longer, i will surprise your mailboxes :)
The Book Fair is rather fascinating, esp. compared to the one we have here. The thing i didnt like was that this year it was IMMENSLY crowded...and when i say 'immensly' i literary mean it....at times i could barely catch breath and felt dizziness and as if i was going to faint...plus my back started to hurt from all the things my rucksack was full with....plus i bought two books which together in total have over 3000 pages and i had to carry that around with me as well....I still feel the pain at my hips from sooo much walking but i dont regret it one bit...i regret i had to go back home so soon
I also met with my uncle and cousin, whom i hadnt seen for ages and they made my day more than enjoyable...they took me to lunch, they walked me around, took me for coffee....eventually i had to rush to the train station coz i risked to miss the train back home...i just didnt feel like going back home...and im really thankful to the heaven and back to them for taking such good care for me and making it all so good...I truly hope i will have a chance soon again to go and this time stay for a couple of days...there are just soooo many things that had to be seen in Belgrade, that one day is more than not enough....I love Belgrade...it has some inexplicable charisma that i cant feel in my own town...i love the pulse of life it has....I could go on ranting about it, but the bottom line is simple..Belgrade is just magnificent...

And of course, I got myself a bunch of postcards (and I PROMISE i will send YOU cards as well next time i go there)....and I wouldnt have felt so thrilled about them if at this one place i didnt see the two cards im posting today....two FLAG cards....can you imagine my reaction when I saw them? I didnt even ask for the price...just took them....a Serbian flag card....who would have thought i would find this??!!
I just feel so happy and content about it

well, lets say a word or two about the flag itself....if anyone actually reached reading to this point  :)

he "main" flag of Serbia is vertically divided red-blue-white with the national coat of arms shifted to the hoist (state flag). WhenMontenegro seceded from the federation, someone, somehow decided that the state flag should be hoisted in front of the UN building. Restaurants, gas stations, sport supporters, all automaticaly started to use the flag with the coat of arms.
Civil vessels on rivers Danube and Sava use the state flag, with some minor exceptions using the flag without the coat of arms.

- the ratio of the flag shall be 1.5:1.
- the coat of arms shall be skewed to the left by 1/7 of the flag width from the center. (The text says to the left, which strictly means that two sides are not the same, when the hoist is to the viewers right, but it is not the case in practice, it should be stated "1/7 to the hoist")
- The use of Pantone scale colours is recommended.
Process colours are used in standard four colour offset printing (CMYK).
Colours shown on this page are not completely precise as original, so numeric values are enclosed.

The civil national flag of Serbia is horizontally divided red-blue-white, in proportion 2:3. The Serbian tricolour dates from 1835 and is based on the Russian colours

Yugoslavia

And to make my thrill and excitement even bigger, i also found this little gem of a card....a card with the Yugoslavian flag!! I was literally head over hills when i saw this....a real little treasure in my collection...who would have thought that I would get to have a Yugoslavian flag card? having in mind that Yugoslavia ceased to exist almost 20 years ago...Im uber-content with what I found!! Uber-content!

Flag of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia consisted of three equal horizontal bands coloured in pan-Slavic colours, blue (top), white and red - with yellow bordered red star, symbol of communism at the flag's centre.

I recall how in kindergarten and primary school we often had the task to draw this flag or the coat of arms...which wasnt that hard...and we especially loved drawing the star....I just wonder how would it have been if i lived in a country with a more complicated flag to be drawn....

Anyway, the Yugoslavian flag was created during World War II by replacing the royal coat of arms on the flag of pre-war Kingdom of Yugoslavia with the red star of communism. The first flag for Democratic Federal Yugoslavia had a red star in the centre stripe of the Yugoslav tricolour. After the war it was given its final shape by enlarging the star and adding a narrow yellow border.
The flag was usually accompanied on official buildings by the flag of the particular socialist republic and the flag of the League of Communists. Because of this, many buildings in former Yugoslavia still carry a three-poled flag holder.

You know...I miss Yugoslavia...I may have still been little when it went apart, but i do miss those times....I think many people actually do...

ps. the title you can read at the flag "Tito Forever", is not part of the actual flag...thats just the nostalgic feeling for what we used to have during the rule of Josip Broz Tito....

Vormsi Lighthouse, Estonia

today Ill have a nice short but thematic update...and the theme is "lighthouses"!!
I could have actually spared that Dutch lighthouse as well, but back then i didnt have the cards im gonna post today (i just had one actually) so it didnt even occur to me to make a thematic update...but now that i thought of it, i feel somewhat proud of myself :-)

The first ABSOLUTELY gorgeous card, comes from Estonia and an enormous Thank You to Janek for choosing such a perfect card...a lighthouse, on a blue background!!
Thank You Thank You Thank You Janek....this card is a real delight :)))
yeah well...i have a soft spot for lighthouses and for the blue colour, so when you combine these two, its like a double dosage of perfection :)
ok, before i go into an endless rant...lets get down to the postcard actually

it has a small text on the background, so apart from the fact it spares me to google for info, i feel as if the info personally belongs to the card, so feels more than appropriate to be put here....regardless how short or long the info on the back of the cards is, i prefer to put that, instead a googled info...

Vormsi Lighthuse, on the Vormsi Island, Estonia.
Height from bottom 24m, light altitude 27m
The cast-iron tower (1871), prefabricated in Lithuania, replaced a tower manufactured in England in 1864

aaaaannndddd...the same is given in Estonian, so here is the thrilling challenge :)))

Vormsi Tuletorn, Vormsi saarel
59°01, 65′ N 23°07,05′ E
Kõrgus jalamist 24m, tule kõrgus merepinnast 27m
Algselt 1864. aastal Inglismaalt tellitud torn vahetati kümmekonna aasta pärast välja Leedus valmistatud malmtuletorni vastu.

mmmm, i think i got to learn some Estonian words today, if i got them right
'saarel'  means 'island'
'tuletorn' means lighthouse
'torn' means 'tower'

im just not sure, but I think that Inglismaalt and Leedus, mean England and Lithuania, respectively...or have I just said the greatest nonsense ever?

Chatham Lighthouse, USA

this card comes as a RAS from the Evans Family who had actually seen this one in my wish list album, and found it for me....thank you soooooooo much!!! For everything!!!!!!

here is what's on the back of the card

Cape Cod
Massachusetts

The Chatham Lighhouse was originally built in 1808. It was one of a pair of identical lighhouses, the other one having been moved and is now the Nauset Beach Light. The beam from the lighhouse can be seen 28 miles at sea. The U.S. Coast Guard maintains an active search and sea rescue station at the light.

lovely...i love this gloomy foggy tone...gives a true feeling of seeing the lighthouse in action!

The Spanish Lighthouses, Puerto Rico

This one came from Addis as a total surprise....

It shows some of the old Spanish Lighhouses that surround the entire island of Puerto Rico
Addis says that on the whole there are 14 or 15 lighthouses in Puerto Rico
the ones that are shown on the card are:

- Cabo Rojo (Los Morillos, 1882)
- Vieques (Punta Mulas, 1896)
- Maunabo (Punta Tuna, 1892)
- Arecibo (Punta Morillo, 1898)
- Fajardo (Cabo San Juan, 1880)
- Rincón (Punta Higuero, 1922)
- San Juan (El Morro, 1908)

Thanks so much Addis for this great card and for contributing to my collection of lighouses

Well, that would be all for today...im looking forward to the weekend and see how it goes....i hope this bad mood im in, will soon go away....till next time...

Florida, USA

What a lovely card!!
Feels especially great now that winter is approaching, to look at images like this...though i cant complain much coz right now the weather is actually nice and sunny and warm.....I wonder what the hell im doing in front of the PC then...

The card is called "A Shell Collector's Paradise"....well, ive never been thinking about shells in this manner so its funny to get to know their respective names....ok, the starfish, and the sponge or the coral...thats obvious....but i never knew shells like 'Sand dollars', 'Paper fig', 'Cats Eye' etc existed....
well, i just love this card...its really cool :)

Vittoriosa Creek, Malta

Here is a card from my aunt's friend....I sometimes wonder if there is a place on Earth where she hasnt been to

hmmm, ok, not much about the actual place can be found, but ill tell you something about the origin of the name "Malta"

The origin of the term "Malta" is uncertain, though the modern-day variation is from the Maltese langauge. The more common etymology is that it comes from the Greek word μέλι (meli) ('honey'). The Greeks called the island Μελίτη (Melite) meaning "honey" or "honey-sweet", possibly due to Malta's unique production of honey; Malta has had an endemic species of bee which lives on the island, giving it the common nickname the "land of honey". Not only was there Greek influence on the island as early as 700 BCE, but the island is presumed to have been later dominated by the Greek-speaking Byzantine Empire from 395 to 870.
Another etymology given is the Phoenician word Maleth meaning "a haven," in reference to Malta's many bays and coves.

Melbourne, Australia

This is from my friend Biljana, from her trip to Australia in 2000....she has relatives both there and in Canada, and of course brought me cards...

The back of the card just says "Twilight over Melbourne"...no description of what those buldings actually are.

btw, yesterday she said that she is due to be very soon, that is next week....yup yup yup...she is going to have a baby girl....hahhahaa, i got so excited to know that she is finally counting the last days....I still havent gotten anything for the baby, and I had this idea of getting her some nice winter clothes and accessories...i just need to find some spare time and have a look at whats around stores...and find something which is actually appropriate for a new-born....hope i wont make some clumsy mistake :D

Ljubljana, Slovenia (02)

An old card, 1975 to be precise, sent to my grandparents from my father when he was serving the army...

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth II is paying a visit to Slovenia these days? Yup, thats right :)
And its her first visit to the country since its independence in 1991...i guess its a real honour for the Slovenians ....

Barcelona, Spain (04)

One of the many cards I had bought during my stay in Spain...and I think this has got to be the thing which definitely left me the greatest impression...the famous fountains in Barcelona..

Talking about them is pointless, coz you just HAVE to see them and experience the atmosphere...thats impossible to be done by talking about them, no matter how hard I try to convey the actual atmosphere...
Unfortunately I couldnt find any professional video about this attraction...just videos taken by tourists and you get to hear more their talking and the background noise, instead what you are actually supposed to hear....but still...here are some, so try to enjoy them :)

I love the way the music, the colours and the dancing of the water is synchronized and composed in the first place.
Ive read about other such fountains throughout the world...would love to get the chance to see them all...and if you happen to be in Barcelona, then you just MUSTN'T miss to see them!!

Dubai, UAE

I wonder why the cards from my aunt's friend simply lack the date...so i cant figure it out when she had been to a certain place, neither i can write it down when i had been given the card, so it places itself into the right category

According to the postcards, she had been to Dubai, twice so far...ive already posted the revious card, and this is the second one.
Well, more or less, to me they basically look the same, with the same sites showing, and the absolutely same tone of the colours, but still, its a different card, so its just great to have it in my collection...personally ive never received a card from UAE addressed to me personally...would be nice to change that
And i hope soon i will get to receive a few new countries...if all goes well, two should be on their way already...its just a question of time when they arrive...
its just a question of tiiiiimmeee...and its running after you...it wont be long until you do, exactly what they want you to... :))
sorry, couldnt help it...i know those lines have nothing to do with the postcard, but it simply came spontaneously to me...who is familiar with the lines, knows what im talking about and where they are coming from....:)

Cat

This is how my Kimi looks at me sometimes, when he wants to say, 'you are soooo annoying'! When i give it a better thought, he often looks at me like this...he is kinda very spoilt...but right now he is on my lap...he jumped by himself...i love it when he comes to me by himself and falls asleep...just that its a bit tough to type like this...but i just dont have the heart to ask him out...i think eventually he will himself get fed up of my arms over his head as I type :)

here is one of my favourite commercials ever...it has a kitty as Kimi...it meows as Kimi....and the whole concept is just really cool...esp. the kitty - tiger relation...of course, credits for the little girl as well :)
I just wonder, if I give some Nesquick to Kimi...if he's gonna end up as the tiger....hihihihihihihiii :D :D :D

Taipei, Taiwan (03)

This card seems more as if painted than as if photographed due to the colours

It shows a night view of  the Dajhih Bridge in Taipei, Taiwan...

The Dajhih Bridge is one of Taipei city’s new landmarks. It is the first cable-stayed bridge with a single pylon in the shape of a fishing rod in the city. It was partially opened to traffic in June 2002. In January 2003, the main span was opened to traffic. The bridge has a total length of 820 meters and eight-lanes, with two-way traffic. It is an important bridge connecting the Dajhih district to other parts of Taipei. At night, when its red cables and pylon are illuminated, it resembles a dazzling work of large outdoor art that sets off the beautiful scenery of neighboring Keelung River Park.

Yosemite National Park, USA

Here is a the Yosemite National Park in the USA...California in particular..

Back of the card:

Upper Yosemite Fall  -  Yosemite National Park, California

Upper Yosemite fall drops 1,430 feet. The Fall runs full in spring and in early summer when the snows melt, and usually runs dry in late summer and autumn

Vienna, Austria (08)

Can you actually notice the overall condition of this card?
Well, partly, its coz its very old!! Comes from 1968, as the cancellation says...but as well, it was a victim of the famous water accident...yet it is in a good condition...bit bent and with the text being somewhat faded away, but it definitely aint for being thrown away

It was given to me by my mum's friend...well...there arent really other sources for such old cards...I just think that this card looks more than decent for being printed back then...
You know, im rather lazy today...actually, i have tonz of work ahead of me...and at least tomorrow is a non-working day, so i can get down to the work more seriously, and definitely manage another update (unfortunately the postman wont be visiting me tomorrow, and he ignored me today as well) but hopefully on Friday he will lighten up my mailbox :)

Stockholm, Sweden

The last card for today...well, you've probably seen it already, it was among those older cards...but since i had had no update from Sweden for a while, and I have no Swedish cards in stock right now...I pulled forward this one..so i cant somewhat decrease the cards waiting on hold there...sometimes i think ill never manage to update them all...I just hope one day I wont get fed up and just delete all the not-updated cards :)

This card was sent to me by my former pen-friend Chrisitna Dulley from Sweden...she sent me this card during a weekend she had spent there...
Im not sure what exactly these card shows...there is no description on the back, so you can just make wild guesses in case you are familiar with Stockholm....

oh, btw...I got a new keyboard yesterday...the keys still feel weird under my fingers, but i guess it takes time...yesterday was one chaotic day...all rushed...all in running...thank God tomorrow is a day off...and Friday as well....I should just have German, but the teacher is absent this week....i even rushed to get to class yesterday, just to find out she couldnt come...so I just wasted an hour and a half in nothing, when i could have stayed at home and do some useful work...but well...at this point i feel much more relaxed...hope ill manage all things on time, so i can feel more relaxed next week, instead of having to do all at the last minute...keep your fingers crossed!

Byōdō-in, Kyoto, Japan (02)

Its sad how lately i simply cant get the right time management, and by the time i become aware of it, another day goes by without making an update...I really suck....plus my own keyboard sucks...I spilt coffee over it...loads of coffee...I dont know how many times exactly i had spilt coffee over it, which eventually goes all over the PC-table, and the floor...and now my keyboard doesnt work properly, and when i type certain letters, two additional letters appear, and I have to say thats more than annoying...so I sneaked in the keyboard from the other PC while my parents are still asleep (its 4:30 am at the time of writing this)...so after finishing with my work overload, im here...I hope it wont take long till I get a new keyboard...or maybe my old one will fix by itself miracelously...I dont really have the time to take screws and cleaners and fix it myself...plus taking out each key, cleaning it, and putting it back, is hell of an annoyance....so, maybe ill have another keyboard sneak-in in the meantime :)
But now lets get down to the initial purpose of being here...

Im definitely starting to acquire a soft spot for these Japanese temples....not that they just look soo beautiful and elegant...but they are always surrounded with such an amazing and breathtaking nature...

this is the Byōdō-in a BuddhistTemple, in Uji in the Kyoto Prefecture. It is jointly a temple of the Jodo Shu (Pure Land) and Tendai sects.
It was originally built in 998 in the Heian Period as a rural villa of Fujiwara no Michinaga one of the most powerful members of the Fujiwara clan.
The most famous building in the temple is the Phoenix Hallor the Amida Hall constructed in 1053. The only remaining original building is the Phoenix Hall, surrounded by a scenic pond; additional buildings making up the compound were burnt down during a civil war in 1336.

Japan commemorates its longevity and cultural significance by displaying its image on the 10 yen coin and the 10,000 yen note features the phoenix image. In December 1994, UNESCO listed the building as a whs as part of the Historic Monuments of ancient Kyoto.
The Phoenix Hall, the great statue of Amida inside it, and several other items at Byōdō-in are national treasures.

Pantanal, Brazil

Another UNESCO site, this time coming from Brazil..

The Pantanal is a tropical wetland in South America mostly within the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, and also portions of it are situated in Bolivia and Paraguay.
Well, on the card it says Brazil, there is the Brazilian flag as well, so i cant put the labels of Paraguay and Bolivia...though i have the itch to do so, since I have no cards from Paraguay...anyone from Paraguay reading this? :)

anyway...back to Pantanal...It is an area consisting of a variety of floodplain sub-regions, each with distinct hydrological, geological and ecological characteristics and in total it covers 140,000 km² to 190, 000 km² making it the 6th largest wetland in the world.

The name "Pantanal" stems from the Portuguese word pântano which is synonymous with wetland, bog, swamp or marsh. In comparison, the Brazilian uplands are locally referred to as the planalto, plateau or, literally, high plain.

AT first glance, these things on the card looked like those small candles which can often be found in cafe's ...at least around here....i cant say for sure what exactly's on the picture...I have my idea...but in order not to end up being ridiculous, ill keep it to myself....i feel really stupid at the moment, but i would ask for forgiveness...I have had a mental overload these past two days...all week-end long...so my mind is a bit slower than usual...and goes blank rather often :)

Bretagne, France (02)

I really like this card, and the image on it

on the back it says...well its in three different languages, so ill write them all

Quel temps fera-t-il aujourd'hui (French)
What will the weather be like today (English)
Wie wird das Wetter heute (German)

Well...its a useful phrase actually, in case you happen to be at a country where youd need one of the above mentioned languages....
and regarding the card itself...its areally nice looking window...i like the colours, blue against green...give the feeling of freshness and youth and joy...though  i wouldnt be surprised if there are many mosquitos inhabitted there as well :)
and i love the cat of course..really cute ....

Milano, Italy

A card from my friend Kate...well, the things with her are status quo compared to the last postcard i had related to her...so nothing new to talk about...

the card here shows the Sforzesco Castle in Milan...it houses several of the city's museum and art gallery collections.
The original construction on the site began in the 14th century by Francesco Sforza nd it was further modified by later generations.
The castle was severely damaged as a result of the allied bombardment of Milan in 1943 during World War II
The best known of the current civic museums is the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco with an art collection which includes Michelangelo's last sculpture, Mantegna;s Trivulzio Madonna and  da Vinci;s Codex Trivulzianus manuscript.

Never read the "Da Vinci Code" book....never had the urge for it...really dont know what should it take so I change my mind and read it actually :)

Thessaloniki, Greece

I bought this one myself during one of my visits there...

I love the 'sunset-tone' of the card...what i dont get it about the Thessaloniki cards is why 99% of them NEED to have a picture of the tower?

Zvikov, Czech Republic

I love such aerial views of castles...well castles are beautiful from whatever point you look at them...but this aerial view, with the water surrounding the castle is simply magnificent!

This is the Zvikov Castle which is located in the South Bohemian Region and is one of the most early-Gothic castles in the Czech Republic.
Zvíkov is placed on a hard to access and steep promonotory above the confluence of the rivers Vltava and Otava.
The first written mention of the castle comes from year 1234. The castle was owned by the Kings of Bohemia.

Lucie, the sender, says that there are about 2000 castles in the Czech Republic, but that only about 700 are open to the public. Hmmm....well, thats even less than half...thats a pity...though id have to agree with Lucie...im more fond of the exterior than the interior of buildings and castles...unless they have something very unique inside...

well, i think i better go and return  the keyboard, before anyone notices its not at its place :)
hopefully it wont take long till we see  each other again :)

Iceland

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! My First Icelandic card!!! And its a FLAG!!

Love it love it love it love it!! Absolutely love it!! Not because I love flag cards in the first place, but also because the Icelandic one has absolutely a beautiful combination of colours, plus Iceland is one of my very favourite countries, even though ive never been there....plus the card itself is sooo perfect, the flag covering it all....Thank You soo much Sabrina
If anyone from Iceland is reading this...here is a 'hint'....I would LOVE to have more and more cards from there....:)

and there is a really nice brief description about the flag on the back of the card:

The Icelandic Flag

The flag of Iceland was officially described in Law on June 17, 1944, the day Iceland became a republic. Describes of the Icelandic Flag as follows: The Civil National flag of Icelanders is blue as the sky with a snow-white cross, and a fiery-red cross inside the white cross.

and....hah...the same description is given in Icelandic as well (well, i guess its Icelandic, coz it makes mostsense to be like that, no? :) And I got tempted to put that down as well..dont ask me how I managed :P

Hehhe...I enjoyed this!!! I should do it more often! You can send me cards like this, written both in English and your mother tongue..its so fun to try to write the language I dont understand :)

Aurora Borealis, Finland

This has got to be the longest card ive ever seen in my life...not just received, but seen!!! Pity you cant see the actual size here, but in length its exactly 29.5 cm....so, if you want, you can check how much that is actually...and how long this card is...and I simply LOVE IT!! Not just coz its so unique due to its length, but its showing the Aurora Borealis as well....and you know how much I love that phenomenon!!

I have my greatest thank you's to Anja for choosing this card...I dont know if she chose it coz of its length, in order to make the stamps fit...or it was just at random...whichever it was...this card is perfect, and I love it!!
My initial request were actually the stamps...not the card...ever since the Finnish post office issued the Kimi Raikkonen edition, i went for a hunt...and as I told you yesterday, today i feature the stamps...you have no idea how great they look on a postcard...and Anja was so kind to actually send me both of the stamps as a sheet in whole...not just the Raikkonen one....cant say more, except AWESOME!!
And thank you so much Anja for helping me with this...and im sorry for being so annoying with all this Kimi request :D :D :D

I feel so content about this....and Raikkonen is gonna start second at tomorrow's Chinese Grand Prix...ok,,,the chances for the title are gone..but still, he should fight to win races...if the title is lost, doesnt mean he should give up on winning the races, right?

Pennsylvania, USA (02)

I love the gray tone of this card....gives some special emotional feeling...well,  i find lot of things emotional sometimes....that aint good..

Ive already spoken of Pennsylvania once, so I wont go into it again..Ill just briefly tell you whats on the pictures....at multiviews i prefer not to get into details about each image....its gonna take a reaaall lot to write about them all :)

- The Liberty Bell --- Gettysburg National Military Park --- rustic covered bridges --- and Amsih farmland are just some of the many interesting attractions awaiting visitors to Pennsylvania

Thank you Katie...your choice absolutely meets my tastes! :)

Moscow Metro Station, Russia

I got these 3 cards in a lottery...they show the interrior of the subway in Moscow....I cant say anything else except that the interior is way too beautiful...

The Subway in Moscow is the world's second most-heavily used rapid transit system. Opened in 1935, it is well known for the ornate design of many of its stations which contain outstanding examples of socialist realist art.

This is the vestibule of the metro station "Mayakovskaya", 1938
This station is on the Zamoskovretskaya Line and is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the system. It is one of the finest examples of pre-World War II Stalinist Architecture making it one of the most famous Metro stations in the world.

This is the vestibule of the metro station "Novoslobodskaya", 1952. It is a station on the Koltesvaya line. Opened on 30 January, 1952 as part of the second stage of the line, it is one of the most famous stations on the system for its unique stained glass decoration.
I think that out of the three, I love this station the most :)

The last of the cards shows the vestibule of the station "Komsomolskaya-Koltsevaya" (in the circular line), 1952.
The Komsomolskaya station is the is the most famous of all those on the Koltesvaya line and of the whole system, and an icon of Moscow itself, partly due to it being located on Moscow's busiest transport hub Komsomolskaya square which serves three railway terminals. As such the station's connotation is of a gateway to Moscow and to the rest of Russia, and its theme is of the patriotic history and inspiring future of the nation. It was opened on 30 January, 1952, as part of the second stage of the Ring line.

In my PC i have an entire folder of pictures from the Moscow subway....all of them magnificent...its soooo great to have some postcards as well, and actually get to know the name of the stations on the pictures and read something more about them.

Southern Africa

at first i got confused about this one, coz i misinterpreted as South Africa...but it actually shows the whole region of Southern Africa..

A world of variety in the diversity of its people, its cultures and its customs. An assortment of wealth in the magnifcence of its animal heritage,  its abundant plant life, minerals, industries and attractions.

lets see which familiar places i can spot...Botswana...Namibia...Lesotho....Mozambique...Cape Town....Zimbabwe...Johannesburg.....huh....i should have some geography revision...half the places dont ring a bell at all...well, ok, of course..then there are the Atlantic and Indian ocean as well  :)

Kimi Räikkönen

Well, another post for a reason today, without any actual postcards...to bad that such two different reasons had to follow one after another...

Today is 17th October...and, I want to use this cance to FINALLY post this, in honour of Kimi Raikkonen's birthday...yup, the Iceman turns 29 today :))
This is my first ever received FDC as well...I dont collect FDC's nor stamps, but for this one I had a special hunt in order to get them and thanks to two lovely ladies, I got both the FDC, which I feature today, and the stamps on an actual postcard, which im probably gonna feature tomorrow...I dont want to put the stamps today, separately from the card...coz they simply belong together.
I received the FDC cover thanks to Essi, who was so kind to help me with this, and ordered the FDC for me and sent it to me...you know, Ive seen FDC's on other blogs...but since ive never actually had one, i had no idea how it actually should exactly look like...yup, shame on my ignorance...but now i know :)  I truly hope there will be some other occasions for me to request another FDC...and feature it here for a reason...
The offical site of the Finnish postal service, says : "In honour of Finnish driver Kimi Räikkönen´s Formula One championship in 2007, a two-stamp miniature sheet is to be issued."
Too bad that he missed the chance to claim the championship title this year as well...the stars just dont collide for him sometimes...he either has an uncompetitive car, something goes wrong with it, there is no consistency...or he simply gets hit by a wackoo as Luis Hamilton, while waiting on the red-light to exit the pit lane...I mean really...Raikkonen and Heidfield were waiting next to one another at the exit of the pit lane, coz he red light was on...the race was a mess, the SC was out...and while they were waiting, the Hamilton guy exited from his garage and didnt notice the red light was on, so he couldnt stop on time, and thats why he HAD to hit Raikkonen;s car?!! POR FAVOR!! Should I mention that while he was driving, he was actually behind Heidfield's car??? So how come he didnt hit Heidfield then, but had to actually turn the steering, and crash into Raikkonen??!! I think that, thats the race when things simply went downhill for Kimi...

Why I support him so devotedly you may ask (it is a devoted support, since ive been doing it since 2002....regardless the team he is driving for...he can go to Super Auguri if he wants, id still cheer for Kimi :)))
I dont know why...the guy is just pretty down to earth...way too cool (or as they call him, cold as ice)...he is a really good driver...and he has some inner thing in him, some kind of competitive force that i love...and well, he is Finnish...and you know by now that I have a soft spot for Finland...well, northern Europe in general...before 2002, even though I didnt follow F1, i supported Mika Hakkinen...so, its all in the "Finnish" thing...what I hate is when people think I support/cherish people coz of their physical appearance....HELL they are wrong...frankly, I dont have such an itch for people i personally dont know...I may say that someone has great charisma (as for example, Brian Molko does...or Morten Hartket...and Rafael Nadal...) but I never support them coz i have a crush on them or would want something with them, or whatever.....thats just non-sense....but oh well...thats people, and thats mentality, so I cant help them with it...
What I also hate is that Raikkonen is often associated with rude behaviour....which is just media propaganda, who love to apply it to him coz they think its just normal that a cold person as he is, behaves like that
For facts and stuff you can just visit the following pages:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimi_R%C3%A4ikk%C3%B6nen

http://www.kimiraikkonen.com/

Here are some highlights...both from his carrer in Ferrari and McLaren....or just outside the tracks

A commercial about Fiat, featuring both Kimi and Michael Schumacher.....huh, ive never liked the latter

A Nescafe commercial....uhhh, I  LOVE this one!! It features coffee!! Delicious coffee!!!

this one is simply called as "Kimi drunk".....but he aint drunk...he just lost balance...so deal with it :)

An Incident in Valencia...one of the famous Ferrari moments, when the driver starts while the fuel hose is still inside....they switched to the lollipop method as everyone else

The last moments of the Brazilian race in 2007 when Raikkonen won the championship.....hahahaha, that was one of the best races ever! He simply ruined Hamilton;s plans at the very very last race
The commentator speaks either Chinese or Japanese...have no idea...I dont understand a single thing of what he says!!

A Mercedes-Benz commercial...Ive always found it funny due to Kimi's way of communication in it :))

Where he allegedly hit the little girl...I the the whole fault lies in the mother here for neglecting her child and running after an autograph...Kimi did NOTHING on purpose here....he may get pissed off, but frankly, he'd never hit a child

This is how Kimi ended in Singapore....something over my heart ached

and another heart-breaking crash in Nurburgring, in 2005...when just before the end of the race, his tyre just couldnt put up with the pressure anymore, and finally gave off...I admire him for continuing the race, even though he was aware his tyre was in trouble and couldve exploded as well...he was leading the race, and scored no points eventually...Alonso came first...

ok...i think you've had it enough :)

Happy Birthday Kimi boy...and get some grip!!! I expect that the next season is all yours, got it? :)

Тоше Проески /Toshe Proeski (1981-2007)

Today im not gonna have a regular post with postcards and all, even though it will be postal related in some sense...

Im making this post today in order to commemorate the death of Тоше Проески....which happened exactly one year ago, 16.10.2007...a day i dont think ill ever forget....
Some of you, esp. if you are outside Europe, had already had the chance to see him on a stamp i had put on your postcards or envelopes..the stamp to which for some reason you want to refer to as 'the guy with the dove'...apologies to those inside Europe, but its somewhat harder to combine this stamp with another one in order to post something to you...but if you really want this stamp, ill see what i can do about it next time i send you something...
It was one year ago, when after I woke up i turned the TV on and the first thing i saw was some performance of Toshe with some other musicians....which wouldnt have been so odd unless I actually noticed the words "In Memoriam" on the screen...this immediately gave me the creeps and made me wonder who had actually died...not in my wildest dreams I would have thought it is Toshe...to me, and to all of us, the guy was simply immortal...so, I switched to the Teletext to read the news, and that was when it hit me...it said "Toshe Proeski died in a car accident"..I switched all channels and everybody was either talking about it or had his music on, with the words scrolling through the screen, of what had happened...he was just 26 years old...
ive never been his fan..i never liked him...though I do admit he had some really good songs, and I never denied he has a terrific voice...but i never was a fan in the sense most of the people here were...and believe me, he had the greatest fan population ever...everyone loved him...it was in his nature I guess...he was kind and generous and sincere, and with all his fatih dedicated to God and his family...he was just sooo down to earth, unlike most of the popular people...even though i didnt like him, I admit he did deserve all the attention and popularity he had...not just in Macedonia, but oisde the country as well...
I would never be able to convey the atmosphere here during that and the following days...you could have simply felt the sadness and grief flowing through the air...not even when our former president died in a plane crash years before that, people grieved like this...
The city sqare here was full of people, young and old, litting candles, leaving flowers, messages, stuffed animals...people crying all the time...no one could have actually realized of what had happened...
They broadcasted the entire ceremony on TV as well...from the arrival of the coffin at the airport, to the burial itself...I would never forget the moment when the plane arrived at 11 pm at the airport, and they took out his coffin from there....one of the creepiest things i had ever witnessed...coz this was real...this wasnt a movie...this was something really happening and we all knew that inside that coffin is Toshe's body...we all knew he would never come back, even though we all still thought that its just a part of some bad dream, and that Toshe would come out of somewhere..we couldnt face it...coz it was Toshe..Toshe couldnt die...Toshe was everywhere around as...on Tv, in the papers, on the radio...it was inevitable a day to pass without hearing or reading something about Toshe..we felt like his constant presence is simply more than natural, and we were used to it, regardless how annoying it could have get...and now we had to push the stop button and make a drastic change of the reality....
it was when he died when it surfaced of how much he had actually done for the music scene here and the country in general...it was then when it surfaced how huge he really was in every sense, and why people loved him so much...it was then when  all of a sudden we started to appreciate many things regarding him....I really wonder why the hell do we realize what we have had once we actually lose that....even me...why did he have to die so I actually figure out the exact figure he represented....the shy teenage guy from Krusevo, who turned into the greatest Macedonian star ever...completely deserved...
I think that the media back then also contributed a lot to making things much more dramatic, as if they werent enough already....I personally, couldnt stop crying for days...I was surprised at my own reactions, that I grieve and cry for someone i never really cared for nor listened to...most of my friends went to his concerts....i never did...I just couldnt picture myself at a concert of his.. I still cant...if he was alive today, i still wouldnt go to his concert...but the difference is that today I much more appreciate all that he did, and grasped the depth of his music and the emotions he had put in things he did...should i say he did countless of thigns for charity? should i say he made hundreds of children smile just coz he personally went to visit them at a hospital or at their home coz they were sick? Yeah, it is a part of a propaganda, but he did it wholeheartidly, not just so they write in the papers next day about it...he was a real humanist...its such such a pity of what happened....i just cant believe it that a whole year had passed since then...time flies so fast...

Regarding the accident itself...I never believed it really was an accident...certain things of the jigsaw just DONT fall into place...many things were done rushed, many things took infinite amount of time to be investigated...many things they served us, just dont make sense...but it all doesnt matter now...he is gone...its pointless to be debating whether it was really an accident or a conspiracy or something else...that wont bring him back...

I wouldnt go into details about his life and all....if you want to, you can read about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To%C5%A1e_Proeski

ill just post some of the songs i think are worth posting...i know you wont understand most of them, since they are in Macedonian or Serbian...but at least you can hear some Macedonian music and you can get to see and hear him...

R.I.P  Toshe!

this has got to be one of my favourite performances of his...this is actually a Macedonial old traditional song, which i had always loved...his perforamnce is just terrific....the song itself, i have always found it really sad, but beautiful...

Zajdi Zajdi, Jasno Sonce  (- Set down Set down clear Sun)

Cija si   (- Whose are you?)

Angel si ti ( - You are an angel)

from the Eurovision song contest...due to adjustments at all, the song there was performed under the name of "Life"..i never liked this performance, and I always CLAIM we should stop going to Eurovision...but i still think its approproate to post this today, regardless my opinion about it...

 Lejdi (- Lady)

this is the Serbian version...couldnt find the Macedonian one..yet, i always thought there is something powerful in this one..I love it

Aria

Toshe performing with Gianna Nannini....

Tajno Moja ( - Secret of mine)

Live version...ive always loved this one, i admit that

Soba za taga ( - A room for sadnees)

another live version...no official videos.....this is at his last concert in Skopje, 5th October...just 11 days before he died...

Igri Bez Granici ( - Games with no Boundaries)

this is the song which is giving me the creeps...its from his last songs....has the feeling of death, of a life wasted, as if he had known he was going to die soon...saying he is tired of life, with empty written pages, with constant failures...i cant help but shiver each time i listen to it

I could post more and more stuff...unfortunately i couldnt find some of my favourite stuff so i can share them with you...but in case you want to see and hear more, just go to YouTube and search for him....you will as well see videos from the accident, from the burial ceremony, from when the plane brought his coffin...im sorry, but I couldnt post those here....

Thank you for your attention at this post...this aint for me...its for Toshe...and for his life...the creidts of today;s post go to him, not me...

btw, i hate translating titles...but i did it, just so you get the context of the song and what is it about

Lamai Beach Koh Samui, Thailand

Ive never actually been on such a white sandy beach...

This is the Lamai Beach on the Koh Samui island in Thailand....

Lamai Beach, situated a couple of bays to the south of Ko Samui's most famous beach, Chaweng, has long been considered the latter's poor cousin. The beach isn't as long, the off-white sand isn't as fine and the restaurants and bars lack the range and quality of those on Chaweng. That being said, both the guesthouses and resorts are considerably cheaper and Lamai Beach seems never as busy. So for those looking for value for money and smaller crowds, it can be a good choice.

The beach has three distinct areas, the north running from the headland to Sand Sea Resort, then the central and southern stretches. The north is quieter, with less development but there's a reason for this -- the beach is prone to mudflats at low tide and, due to storm water run off from a creek between Sand Sea and Laguna Resorts, after rain, the water along this stretch can become extremely dirty. The central and southern stretches on the other hand have far cleaner water but on the central stretch there's more development and both areas have a lot of jet ski action.

Off the beach, Lamai has a small range of restaurant and entertainment options when compared to Chaweng and overall has a pretty low-rent feel to it, in no small part due to the dozens upon dozens of girlie bars that line the road and anywhere else you can stick a shack with a few stools. You can escape most of this by heading back down to the beach where there's a smattering of typical beach-seafood type places -- prices are considerably lower than Chaweng and the food can be very good.

Wow....this was some commercial :)

Siebengebirge, Germany

I post this card in honour of my recent enrollment at a German language course...

DE-206972

I used to study German for a number of years...4 years in high-school, two at university...and never managed to get past the basic stuff of the numbers (which i actually learned when i was 5 or 6 years old) and the basic stuff of "Ich bin Studentin, ich bin xx Jahre alt, ich komme aus Skopje, ich wohne in Skopje.." and stuff like that...my absolut problem with the German were the articles and the cases...I never grasped why and when things go from nominativ to dativ or accusativ...and the respective articles of the nouns, die, der, das...and all those possible and impossible changes when making a sentence...partially its coz i never truly dedicated myself to it and didnt really take it serious...I was convinced thatt since I know English so well, im just gonna catch up with German just like that, without any dedicated work...well, of course, I was sooooo wrong....
In high-school, I have to say, the teacher we had was way to incompetent as well...she was a medical nurse who lived in Germany for I dont know how many years, so she ended up teaching German....we often made jokes on her behalf, coz she was just...well, a good joking material :)  And when it came to tests, in most of the cases this is what happened...we either copied from each other...or..if this other class who had German as well, did the test before us (which happened in most of the cases) and got the results back before we actually did the test ourselves (which as well happened in most of the cases, since we always had German later in the day) so we would have just taken a test with the highest mark, copy it, and then simply copy the answers to our tests, coz the questions were always absolutely the same...and of course, we got high marks, even though we knew nothing in German :)
At University was a different story.....the classes in German were late in the evening, at 7pm, which wouldnt have been such a problem if those days classes didnt start at 7am...so it was aaaalll day spent at uni, and eventually I started skipping classes...that was in the first year...the second year, i was just too lazy in general....for the exam, i copied things from my friend...the teacher was aware of it, but didnt do anything...so i ended up scoring a '9'...having in mind that the '10' is the highest mark at Uni, i was more than satisfied....so thats how my German adventures had passed, and thats why i never managed to actually learn it...
Eventually I wanted to enroll a course, but once I finished uni, another problem occured...I started working immediately, and my working hours had always been in the afternoon till 10pm...and of course, all German courses were in the afternoon as well, so I simply COULDNT fit it in, regardless of how much i wanted it....and finally this year, at the school im currently working at, there is a beginner course in German, and I can fit it into my shcedule, since at least i dont have to go to some place else (coz i wouldnt have the time for it)...so I just have my German class, and immediately i move on with my own classes, in the same classroom :) So from the studnet's chair, i move into the teacher's one...its quite odd...but to be honest, i LOVE it...you have no idea with how much enthusiasm im into all this...and i truly hope this time, im gonna finally move past the basic stuff...so far, im doing ok...hopefully it will keep being ok :)

Ill tell you about it at my next German card :)))

Stanley, Hong Kong

One thing i absolutely love about the Hong Kong postcards, is their size...they are really bigger than standard cards...and the images look soo good on them

This old colonial building, once situated in Central next to the Murray Road carpark, was dismantled, stored and finally re-erected in Stanley in 1999, where it is now home to a number of restaurants.

I love the domination of the blue colour....

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

That friend of my aunt is one lucky person to have travelled to soooo many places..

Due to a number of reasons, im not gonna get into details for this one.....just a question...can anyone get me a ticket and visa to Mexico? Im gonna give him or her all my cards....plus send him or her cards from there on daily basis until i send out every possible Mexican card ever published.....anyone?   Im deadly serious, so give it a thought....

Sofia, Bulgaria

I have no idea how old exactly this card is...but its old...there is no date on it...its unwritten, so i cant determine its age...I even have no idea how it had ended up in my collection, but according to some guesses, i think its from my late grandmother...or from my mum..I have a relative, who lived in Bulgaria, then moved to the US, and as for now, as far as i know, he comes and goes....but ive never met him, though we had tried to arrange it several times..
I could go into some stories now...but since i cant confirm the origin of this card, i dont actually find it appropriate to tella story, which aint actually related to the postcard

So, ill just tell you. that on the card you can see the city centre of Sofia...or how it looked back in time, when this picture was taken...

ahhhh, keep your fingers crossed for me that i do go to Sofia the 18th May next year....id give anything to go there then and attend what i want to attend...not telling ahead...coz i have no idea what the chances are of it to happen..but man, id be sooo damn happy if it comes true...
